Collaborations between brands are not something new. The industry increasingly tends to make brands ally with each other to reduce costs and ensure the profitability of a product. Suzuki y Toyota They have reached a close collaboration agreement from which several twinned products have come out. The Suzuki Swace Hybrid It is the latest in that batch of products.
We have tested this car:
Test Suzuki Swace 1.8 Hybrid GLX 122 CVIt is undeniable to remember Toyota Corolla in its Touring Sports body when talking about the Swace Hybrid. Suffice it to say that the two models are exactly the same but with changed emblems. As we have already said, it is the last product of the alliance that has seen the light, and it has done so shortly after the launch of the Suzuki across, the twin brother of Toyota RAV4.
The Suzuki Swace Hybrid is presented in autumn 2020 and later updated in 2023 with the already known image of the most familiar Corolla of all. It is only available in that bodywork, and it is a global product that is marketed in different countries around the world, including Europe and Spain. In this way, the Japanese brand fills out a portfolio with which to reduce emissions and circumvent the restrictive European emission regulations.
Technical characteristics of the Suzuki Swace Hybrid
The reality is that Suzuki has not done much to hide or camouflage the origin of its new family compact. The Swace Hybrid not only borrows the image, but also everything that goes with it, from the mechanics to the platform. It's about the Toyota TNGA structure, the same that we can see in other products of the house such as the Toyota Yaris, in addition to the Corolla and the RAV4.
Being available in a single body, the dimensions leave us with a generously sized compact. 4,65 meters long, 1,79 meters wide and 1,43 meters high. It has a wheelbase of 2,7 meters that allows it to offer a generous interior space where five passengers can travel comfortably.
As far as cargo capacity is concerned, the Suzuki Swace Hybrid's extended body allows it to offer excellent cargo capacity. 598 liters minimum capacity that can be expanded above 1.000 liters when we fold down the second row of seats in a 60:40 ratio. The total weight of the set is set at 1.400 kilograms in running order.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Suzuki Swace Hybrid
When it came to mechanically equipping the Swace, Suzuki had two options in the Corolla range. The deal with Toyota only gives you access to one engine, and that leaves us with the Japanese they have opted for the least performing variant of the two possible. That leaves us with all units coming standard with a e-CVT automatic gearbox continuous variator and a simple drive system to the front axle.
Deriving from a Toyota engine, it is obvious that the engine fitted is a hybrid, hence its name; Suzuki Swace Hybrid. It's about the Toyota's fifth generation hybrid mechanics. It consists of a four-cylinder gasoline engine and 1.798 cubic centimeters that by itself develops a power of 98 horses. An electric motor and a small lithium-ion battery are associated with it.
The maximum power of the set is 140 horsepower. Being a hybrid, it is capable of moving 100% electrically for a range of approximately two kilometers. The DGT certifies it as an ECO car, which has certain advantages when it comes to being able to move around the center of cities where mobility is increasingly limited.
Equipment of the Suzuki Swace Hybrid
From doors to inside there is no need to expect changes with respect to the Corolla. The Suzuki Swace Hybrid borrows all the elements, and that leaves us with a cabin where we find well-chosen materials that provide a sense of correct quality. Soft materials are mixed with hard plastics and the always typical durability of Toyota products.
As is customary in the house, the range of the Swace Hybrid is structured in two levels, the usual ones. From smallest to largest endowment we find: GLE and GLX. The differences between them are mainly focused on the technological level, although we also find small aesthetic changes, mainly fixed in details such as the wheels or some interior trim.
As far as equipment is concerned, we can say that the Swace Hybrid It is one of the most equipped models in the history of the brand.. Among all the elements, it is worth mentioning the presence of: LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, connectivity for mobile devices, browser, heated front seats and steering wheel, partially digital instrument panel and multimedia system with an eight-inch screen.

By sections, the results are: 95 out of 100 in adult passenger protection, 84 out of 100 in child passenger protection, 86 out of 100 in pedestrian vulnerability and 77 out of 100 in driving assistants.
Rivals of the Suzuki Swace Hybrid
The European compact segment has always been one of the most important in terms of sales level. All brands have always paid special attention to it, and that is why the rivals are counted by dozens. The list of rival models that the Swace Hybrid must face is long, and among them we can highlight: Renault Mégane, SEAT Leon, Peugeot 308, Kia ceed, Hyundai i30, Ford Focus y Opel Astra, among others. Obviously all of them are rivals not only because of their compact size, but also because they have family bodies.
