Symmetrical AWDThe history of the Impreza starts in 1992. It was then that Subaru wanted to launch a shortened version of the Subaru Legacy, a model that would end up disappearing for the sake of the new Subaru Forester y Subaru Outback. That first generation reaped great sporting and commercial success, being sold in various possible formats; from a three-door saloon to a classic five-door compact.
They are currently five generations that have reached the market. The last one officially launched on the market in 2017Unlike in the past, today it is sold as a pure compact, although we could consider the Crosstreck as the country variant of the same. In 2025 it will undergo an update focused on improving the mechanical range with state-of-the-art systems.
Technical characteristics of the Subaru Impreza
Today The entire Subaru range is supported by the SGP (Subaru Global Platform) modular platform.. It is a modern architecture released in 2018 by the Subaru XV and which, of course, is also mounted on the Impreza. Thanks to it, dynamics are improved, new technologies are implemented, and there is access to a state-of-the-art mechanical range with electrified systems.
Due to its measurements, the Subaru Impreza enters the competitive segment of European compacts (segment C). Outwardly it reaches 4,48 meters long, 1,78 meters wide and 1,48 meters high. To these levels must be added a wheelbase of 2,67 meters. A battle that allows you to offer a cabin with capacity for a maximum of five passengers.
Three of them are located in a rear row with correct head and leg room, although the central square is narrow and uncomfortable due to the presence of a bulky transmission tunnel. Regarding load capacity the Subaru Impreza offers a trunk with a minimum capacity of 340 liters. That figure can grow above a thousand liters if the rear row of seats is folded down in a 60:40 ratio.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Subaru Impreza
Over the years, the Subaru Impreza has been shedding some mechanical options. A necessary farewell given the latest and most demanding European emissions regulations. Currently, the mechanical range is made up of a single version, launched in the 2019 commercial update and subsequently modified in 2025. It is a conventional hybrid set that receives the name of EcoHybrid.
The set is mainly formed by a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine in boxer position. A classic setup within Subaru. It has a displacement of 1.995 cubic centimeters, develops 152 horsepower and a maximum torque of 194 Nm at 4.000 revolutions. An electric motor with 16,7 horsepower and 66 Nm of torque is attached to it.
The management is derived from a continuous variator-type CVT automatic transmission that distributes the power of the drive train to the four wheels through the Subaru's usual and excellent permanent symmetrical all-wheel drive. The Impreza EcoHybrid officializes a combined consumption in the WLTP cycle of 7,9 liters per 100 kilometers traveled. Thanks to its hybrid status, the DGT certifies it with the DGT ECO label.
Subaru Impreza Equipment
From doors inside the Subaru Impreza sports a very well presented interior, something that is already common in all the models of the house. This fact allows Subaru to be considered one of the best general brands in the European market. Pleasant-touch surfaces and careful workmanship generate a sense of high perceived quality, even more so than in some rival premium models.
After the 2021 restyling, the Impreza reduces its range of equipment to focus on a single version, at least in our country, which is called Urban. A closed package that the only thing that can be altered is the color of the body (+ €650), or some accessories sold separately such as roof bars, ski racks, rear parking sensor or rear bike rack with capacity for two or three bicycles.
As for equipment, the Impreza sports many state-of-the-art elements that are very attractive. It is worth highlighting some such as: LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, sunroof, connectivity for mobile devices, multimedia system with 8-inch panel, rear camera and all the deployment of security technology collected by the EyeSight system, one of the best in the industry.

El Subaru Impreza It has been subjected to the impact tests carried out by the European autonomous body Euro NCAP in 2024, obtaining the highest possible rating: 5 stars. The scores obtained in the different tests are as follows. Protection for adult and child occupants in the event of an impact is 83 and 90 percent respectively. In the event of a collision with pedestrians or cyclists, the car obtained a remarkable 84 percent. Finally, in terms of active driving aids, it achieved a modest 72 percent protection.
The Subaru Impreza of Km0 and second hand
Although the Subaru Impreza is a model with a long commercial history, the number of semi-new or zero kilometer units available on the market is not very generous. This is because the Japanese manufacturer's commercial network is not very extensive in our country. So many units for sale means many purchase options. Some versions are highly valued, while others are not. For this reason it is difficult to encrypt a single depreciation percentage.
If we take a look at the used and second-hand market, we see that the cheapest units date from the third generation (2007 – 2012). Prices start in quantities close to 2.000. Curiously, previous generations are more expensive given the fame they obtained and the few units available. As for the Km 0 offer, in this case all the available models correspond to the fifth generation. Prices start around 22.500 euros.
Subaru Impreza Rivals
Due to its position in the range of the Japanese manufacturer, and in the market, the Subaru Impreza falls into the compact segment. In it, the competition is very high, having rivals with a consolidated commercial trajectory. Among the main opponents of Show, we can find the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Audi A3, BMW Serie 1, FIAT Type, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Hyundai i30, Infiniti Q30, Kia ceed, Lexus CT200h, Mazda 3, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Nissan Pulsar, Opel Astra, Peugeot 308, Renault Mégane, SEAT Leon, Toyota Auris y Volkswagen Golf.
