El Opel Grandland It was the second model that emerged after the purchase of the German brand by the now defunct PSA Group, a conglomerate formed by Citroën, DS, Opel y Peugeot The first generation was launched at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and was launched shortly afterwards, launching the brand into the compact SUV segment. We have tested this car:
Test Opel Grandland PHEV 225 CV (with video)Test Opel Grandland X 1.2 Turbo 130 CV Excellence (with video)Test Opel Grandland X 2.0 diesel 177 CV and Ultimate finishSu technical development The new model has now taken place under the auspices of Stellantis, due to the merger of the PSA Group with the Italian-American group FCA. Therefore, its technology has nothing to do with its predecessor, as it has now jumped to a new platform derived from the EMP2 used by the original Grandland. The main differences between one model and the other have not only focused on the aesthetics and some elements of the general equipment. It is new in every way…
It is worth mentioning that the Opel Grandland, Peugeot 3008 y 5008 next to the new Citroen C5 AirCross They are sister models. They all use the same platform but unlike the previous one, they are no longer manufactured at the Peugeot plant in Sochaux (France). It has now been assembled in the legendary factory that the lightning house has in Eisenach (Germany), from which all the versions and mechanics available in the range come out.
Technical characteristics of the Opel Grandland
Opel has benefited greatly from being part of Stellantis. Thanks to this, it has had access to more modern technologies and developments, shared between all the conglomerate's brands with the aim of reducing costs. Thus, Under the body of the Opel Grandland hides the STLA Medium platform, the same one that we can already see in many other products of the group such as the new ones Peugeot 3008 y Peugeot 5008 which will be joined by many more.
The new Grandland is positioned in the mainstream compact crossover segment thanks to its ideal dimensions: 4,65 meters long, 1,91 meters wide and 1,66 meters high. In addition to the exterior dimensions, there is a wheelbase of 2,78 metres, which translates into a large interior space for five passengers spread across two rows of seats. In this row, there is an extra 20 millimetres of legroom.
Thus, in the back row three passengers will be able to sit comfortably since the bench is divided into three seats that, although not the same size, will facilitate their accommodation. For its part, the Minimum trunk volume of 550 liters is for all versions of the range. In addition, if the three seats in the second row are folded down, the resulting volume is 1.641 litres, a figure that places it at the head of all its rivals, and also results in a completely flat floor.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Opel Grandland
The 2024 facelift will see changes to the mechanical part, as electrification has now taken centre stage. All versions benefit from the latest technologies, complying with the most modern and restrictive European regulations. The range is structured in a Mild Hybrid version, a Hybrid version and a battery-powered BEV version.. All available versions enjoy the Eco and ZERO labels from the DGT for their low emissions.
The offer starts with Grandland 1.2T Hybrid with 136 hp and 220 Nm of maximum torqueThis is a Mild Hybrid version that combines on one side the 1.2 PureTech turbocharged petrol engine with timing chain and a performance of 136 hp and on the other a 29 hp electric motor that goes in the eDCT6 automatic transmission. This is a dual-clutch transmission with 6 speeds and always sends the engine's power to the ground through the wheels of the front axle.
The second mechanical version of the Grandland is Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV). To do this, the 1.6 PureTech turbo gasoline engine with four cylinders and 194 hp of power is joined with another electric engine with 125 hp. To power itself, it uses a battery with a capacity of 18 kWh that gives it a autonomy in electric mode of 87 kilometersThe group is joined by a 7-speed eDCT7 dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to the front axle.
Lastly is the Grandland BEV electric. This version of the Bavarian D-SUV has 213 hp power which is powered by two batteries: 73 kWh and 82 kWh. The autonomy is 523 and 582 kilometers respectively and that should be extended to 700 kilometers a little later thanks to a battery of 98 kWh energy capacity. The maximum charging power of the smaller battery is 160 kW, while the larger one supports up to 150 kW.
Equipment of the Opel Grandland
Unlike its Peugeot cousins, the Opel Grandland's cabin is more serious and rational. It features a 10-inch screen for the instrument panel and a 16-inch screen for the infotainment system. In its favour, we can mention that it retains the Physical controls for the air conditioning or the steering wheel. The central tunnel houses the automatic transmission selector, a recess with a wireless charging tray and two cup holders.
As is usual for the firm, different levels of equipment are offered. In this case there are two: Edition and GS and in each of them there is a leap in finishes and equipment, there are also specific design details. On the first level, EditionThe Grandland includes elements such as ECO LED headlights, dual-zone climate control or the Safety Pack in basic version with aids such as Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) or Autonomous Emergency Braking.
If we go to the version GS The allocation is significantly expanded. It includes Intelli-Lux HD Matrix Headlights, Opel Navigation System 16″, 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels or black two-tone roof. In addition, with the extra cost of optional packs, it adds toSport seats in fabric and PVC with AGR certification for driver and passenger, inductive smartphone charger or the extension of the active driving aids of the Safety Pack.

The Opel Grandland according to Euro NCAP
El Opel Grandland was subjected to the Euro NCAP crash test in 2017 The German model has achieved 5 stars. However, this score corresponds to the first generation, as the second has not yet been subjected to the tests of the European body. However, the protection in this German model should be better, or similar, than that of the previous one, since it achieves protection for adult and child occupants of 84 and 87 percent respectively. Protection for pedestrians and cyclists is 63 percent, and in terms of active driving aids it obtained 60 percent protection. We will have to wait for its test to find out if the new Grandland is better, or worse.
The Opel Grandland of Km 0 and second hand
Although the new Grandland has not yet reached the market, its predecessor managed to gain a good market share thanks to a good price-product ratio. The first years of commercial life have been active, and this has caused alternative sales channels to offer a large number of units. If we look at all of them, We see how its depreciation is around 30%, a standard value within the general C-SUV category.
If we take a look at the available models of the new iteration in the KM0 market we see that the cheapest units start their prices in amounts close to 36.000 euros for Mild Hybrid and base trim models. Unlike other models, the second-hand or semi-new channel is quite popular. If we opt for a used Grandland X we can find it for around 16 thousand euros with 31 thousand kilometers and a 1.2 PureTech 130 HP engine. If we opt for a semi-new one, the price would rise to 29.600 for a Grandland Hybrid with 0 km.
Opel Grandland rivals
