El Audi A1 It is the smallest and most economical car sold by the Ingolstadt firm. The first generation hit the market in 2010 with two body types: three and five doors. Thus, the second installment of this urban car arrived in 2018 completely renewed and available in two different body styles; the normal five-door and a version with SUV appearance called A1 Allstreet introduced to the market in 2022.
We have tested this car:
Test Audi A1 40 TFSI 207 HP, the GTi that Audi never dared to call that (with video)Test Audi A1 Sportback 30 TFSI S tronic 116 CV (video)As specified in its name, the A1 is located below other models from the house, such as the Audi A3 or Listen Q2, with which it shares a platform and in fact could be considered the all-terrain version of the little German. Due to its characteristics, it is located in the premium segment, where he barely has a direct rival in sight, which is none other than the MINI.
Technical characteristics of the Audi A1
The new Audi A1 is developed on the modern MQB-A0 modular platform. This is the same one used by Seat Ibiza, Volkswagen Polo o skoda scala. However, it has a different setup, as it may include adaptive suspension.
Externally, the A1 reaches 4,03 meters long, 1,74 meters wide and 1,41 meters high. The wheelbase has grown, standing at 2,56 meters. Thanks to this, its cabin and trunk capacity have increased significantly.
Now, the Audi A1 can accommodate up to five occupants (although four will be better). The trunk capacity is 335 liters., since there are not two types of bodies, it is the same. Finally, the final weight on the scale is between 1.090 and 1.260 kilos.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Audi A1
The mechanical range of the renewed Audi A1 leaves diesel engines forgotten. In this way, The range of the small A1 is made up of the following versions: 25 TFSI, 30 TFSI, 35 TFSI and 40 TFSI. The first two have the 1.0 TFSI block under the hood with powers of 95 and 115 HP. The 35 TFSI version uses a 1.5 TFSI block with 150 HP of power.
Lastly, The 40 TFSI uses a turbocharged block with 2.0 liters and 207 HP of power. All engines have direct injection, turbo and comply with the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions regulations. All units send power to the front axle by managing manual or automatic gearboxes depending on the version.
In the first case, there are two options. 5 speeds for the 25 TFSI version and 6 for the 30 TFSI. The automatic option is a 6-speed dual-clutch Stronic for the 40 TFSI and 7 ratios for the 30 TFSI and 35 TFSI. In the case of the Audi A1 Allstreet, the mechanical range is the same except for the absence of the most powerful variant of all., the 40 TFSI with 207 horsepower.
Equipment of the Audi A1
From the inside, the A1 appears to be a good urban car, being one of the best in the category in terms of finishes and equipment. Despite being in such a small segment, its equipment possibilities are worthy of higher markets.. In this way, for the Spanish market its range is structured around 5 versions plus the Allstreet version.
Thus, we find the options: A1 Sportback (access), Advanced, S-line, Adrenalin Edition and Competition. However, one of the problems (as occurs in the premium segment) is that the standard equipment is limited. In this way, we must complete the provision with price options that are not contained. The main differences between the finishes focus on the equipment and design sections, with notable variations between one and the other.
All in all, the renewed Audi A1 can include elements such as: LED matrix headlights, digital instrumentation, keyless entry and start, sunroof, two-zone climate control, infotainment system with 10-inch touch screen, connectivity for mobile devices, keyless entry and start, 18-inch wheels, and complete safety equipment and driving assistants.

The Audi A1 according to Euro NCAP
The urban segment is not always highly rated in terms of safety. However, Audi has managed to create the safest A segment of the moment. Euro NCAP tests have certified the A1 as a five-star safety car. Outstanding were the scores in safety for adult passengers (95 out of 100), in protection for child passengers (85 out of 100) and in safety assistants (80 out of 100). Thanks to this, it can be said that it is the best in its category.
The Audi A1 of Km 0 and second hand
The Audi A1 is almost the only premium urban car on the market. Therefore, its value increases in the USDA market. To this, it should be noted that the first generation was very reliable and robust, so its depreciation (28,5%) is lower than its rivals. The units that are on the used or kilometer zero market are very quoted. In any case, there is a large stock available, so we can access almost any option.
If we are interested in a second-hand Audi A1 (first generation), the range is very wide. We can access a unit from 2011 with 160 thousand kilometers for just 7.000 euros. The Sportback units (five doors) are slightly more expensive, approximately 1.000 euros more for similar versions of equipment and mechanics.
Rivals of the Audi A1
Main rivals that the Audi A1 has to fight against are becoming fewer and fewer. Premium firms are not attracted to this market and we could only mark the MINI as the most direct rival of the German. If we expand the rivals to the general urban segment, things change. So, he has his cousins Seat Ibiza, Volkswagen Polo y Skoda Fabia as main opponents. The Peugeot 208, Citroën C3 o KIA Rio They also fight hard to steal sales and move up a category.
