Citroën launched the second generation of its C3 city car in 2010. After seven years on the market, they decided with the third iteration to abandon the design of the first two and propose a model that followed the trend pioneered by the C4 Cactus . However, the commercial life of this well-known model will continue to be extended in those countries where it is still in demand and where the economy of its citizens does not allow them to buy more expensive vehicles.
This is why Mercosur has decided to take this model a step further. To that end, Citroën has prepared the Urban Trail version of the C3 , giving it a similar aesthetic to the new C3 and the updated C4 Cactus. Its defining features include the characteristic Airbumps on the lower part of the doors, the black-painted roof , and the plastic cladding along the wheel arches.
Other secondary elements that complete the aesthetics of the Citroën C3 Urban Trail include rearview mirrors with matte gray housings, black door handles, and newly designed alloy wheels. The rest of the bodywork remains unchanged, as the final cost of this version must be kept down, even though it is one of the most expensive in the C3 range in Brazil (only surpassed by the Exclusive trim).
The C3 Urban Trail is powered by the veteran 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder VTi gasoline engine . This is the same engine previously used in the European C-Elysée range, producing 115 hp and 150 Nm of torque. The only available transmission is a six-speed EAT6 automatic with a torque converter; a manual gearbox is not offered.
For now, its sale is only planned for this region of the world, leaving other areas without its presence. With it, Citroën will complete its range of recreational vehicles, as it is set to launch the facelifted European C4 Cactus in Mercosur in the second half of this year. Thus, the C3 Urban Trail is positioned below the Cactus in terms of price, engine options, equipment possibilities, and overall quality.
