The Tesla Model 3, which we recently tested at Actualidad Motor, continues its dominant position in the market, remaining the best-selling electric car. However, the competition is looking to challenge it, and Chinese brands are coming in with a heavy arsenal… For example, Build Your Dreams has just announced the launch of the new BYD Seal 06 GT, a hatchback that aims to take on the American contender.
It won't be easy, that much is clear, but it won't be for lack of arguments. The truth is that, at first glance, the Asian model, which will be officially launched on August 30th, boasts a more attractive , or at least more eye-catching, aesthetic than its arch-rival.
In fact, its design almost suggests sporting aspirations that, in practice, won't be the case. Or will they? We'll find out when its European range is announced. What's clear for now is that its lines are inspired by the Ocean-M prototype unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show, and that its main dimensions will be 4,63 meters long and have a 2,82-meter wheelbase.
BYD will continue to boast with its batteries
We also know that this Seal 06 GT (we'll have to see if it retains that name in our market) will be one of the first BYD models to use the new 3.0 Evo platform . This means, among other things, that it will boast a new generation of batteries that will allow it to significantly optimize its efficiency.
As we said, it's still too early to define a specific catalog of versions and configuration options. However, there's talk that a 73 kWh battery could give it a theoretical maximum range of around 600 km . Furthermore, in China it could go on sale for less than the equivalent of about €20.000… We'll see how much its price increases in Europe.
