El Bugatti W16 Mistral has managed to exceed all expectations by setting a new world speed record for convertible cars, reaching the incredible 453,91 km/h. This record crowns him as the fastest convertible in the world, leaving behind the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, which held the previous record at 408,84 km/h, achieved in 2013.
El 16-liter W8.0 engine, equipped with four turbochargers, is the jewel of engineering behind this achievement. With 1.600 hp and a torque of 1.600 NmThe Bugatti W16 Mistral offers a unique experience. It is supposedly the last Bugatti model to use this iconic engine, as the brand is changing its path towards hybrid and electric technologies for the future.
A record broken on German soil
This milestone was reached in the Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP), a test track in Germany that has already witnessed other car records. At the wheel of the W16 Mistral was Andy wallace, the driver who has tested many of Bugatti's most powerful models and has left his mark on other previous speed records. Wallace set out to 200 km/h on a warm-up lap before unleashing all its power on the main straight, without a roof and with the wind in his face. The feeling of driving at more than 450 km/h in a convertible was simply "exciting and unique" for the driver himself.
The most incredible thing is that the W16 Mistral The record-breaking model is not a special or modified version for the occasion. It was a production unit, exactly the same as the other 99 that were built. All available models are already sold, with a starting price of 5 millones de euros, but after reaching this record, its value has risen significantly. The unit used for the attempt is now valued at 14 millones de euros.
The exclusivity of a unique car
The client who owns the record-breaking car was present at the test, which is unusual for these events. In fact, he had the opportunity to accompany Wallace for a high-speed ride. According to Bugatti, on that ride a new unofficial record for top speed with passengers was probably set. This client is known for having in his collection all the Bugatti models that have managed to break speed records, as part of the Singh Collection.
The car, adorned with a body of black carbon fiber and details in Jet Orange, pays homage to previous Bugatti models that also broke records. In addition, it features Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, which were essential to ensure the stability of the vehicle at such speeds.
A legend that continues
This achievement is not only a feat of speed, but also a way for Bugatti to show its ability to continue to push its limits. From the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse as Chiron Super Sport 300+Bugatti has continually demonstrated its ability to lead in the field of high performance.
El W16 Mistral has established itself as a true jewel of engineering and design. With each of the 99 examples already sold, the lucky owners of this car will enjoy a living piece of automotive history.
