Baojun E300: The electric urban that wants to revolutionize the Chinese market

General Motors is one of the few foreign automakers with a strong presence in China . It has been operating in this region for many years, giving it a deep understanding of this unique market. Furthermore, it has successfully adapted to the various regulations the Chinese government has implemented in the automotive sector. As a result, new brands have emerged, often through mergers and spin-offs of existing companies.

One of them is Baojun , which is launching a model that aims to change urban mobility in the country . To this end, it has created a small model belonging to the A segment, which comes in two versions. It's called the E300 and E300 Plus, and beneath their skin lies an important secret: they are electric . Furthermore, it doesn't resemble the typical spartan quadricycle that was common in this country until a couple of years ago. In short, it's a product that's generating interest.

The Baojun E300 and E300Plus do not reach 3 meters in length

Starting with the Baojun E300 , we have an exterior length of 2,62 meters , a width of 1,64 meters, and a height of 1,59 meters. The Baojun E300 Plus , meanwhile, increases its exterior dimensions to 2,98 meters . The wheelbase also varies, from 1,75 meters for the smaller model to 2 meters for the larger one. And what do these figures translate to? Simply put, they translate to interior space and trunk capacity.

Thus, the Baojun E300 can accommodate two or three passengers, while the Baojun E300 Plus seats four. Technically, both models feature an independent McPherson strut suspension and a double wishbone independent suspension design for a comfortable ride. All of this is housed in a body constructed from composite materials and a chassis made of over 80 percent ultra-high-strength steel.

The Baojun E300 and E300 Plus are powered by an electric drivetrain . Specifically, they use a rear-mounted motor that generates 40 kW (55 hp) of maximum power and 150 Nm of maximum torque. Power is managed by a single-speed automatic transmission that draws energy from a lithium-ion battery available in two capacities: 16,8 kWh or 31 kWh. The manufacturer estimates a range of over 300 kilometers.

The arrival of the Baojun E300 and Baojun E300 Plus in the Chinese market is imminent . The official price starts at €8.294 for the smaller model and just over €10.000 for the more capable one. For now, there are no plans for it to reach the European market , but given market trends, it wouldn't be surprising. Can you imagine it in major cities as part of a carsharing program?
