Alpine A290, could this be called the sporty brother of the electric Renault 5?

Alpine A290

Alpine has communicated a few minutes ago that next Tuesday, May 9, they will present a new showcar. The name for this prototype is Alpine A290B, referring that last “B” to “beta”. They say from the automobile company that will anticipate the future of the vehicle urban, sporty and electric of the brand, which "will reinvent the concept of sportsmanship."

They also comment from Alpine that the choice of this nomenclature is not accidental, that it makes sense. Follow the strategy of using the A -for Alpine- followed by three numbers. The first number corresponds to the segment, meaning 2 that we are facing a car from segment B. The number 90 represents the future lifestyle range of the firm gala, while 10 will continue to be reserved for the most aspirational and truly sporty vehicles.

With all of the above, and although they are mere assumptions, this announcement accompanied by an image with the model silhouetteIt has given us a lot to think about. But the idea that gains the most strength in our minds, perhaps due to the desire and emotion of the person who writes these letters, is that It could be a high-performance version based on the future Renault 5 Electric.

Can you imagine? Like many decades ago, we would have a simple and cheap Renault 5 to move around the city with agility and simplicity, with a very cool retro aesthetic in this case. And then, for those who want a plus of image and greater benefits, that Alpine A290 based on it.

The image with the silhouette of the prototype does not say much either, but it does make it clear that it will have the typical exterior shape of an urban vehicle, with a fairly straight tailgate, and also strong features such as the shape of the front hood, upper roof spoiler and a bulging rear bumper.

At the moment, Alpine has not ruled beyond saying that it will be an electric, urban and sports car; as well as that this model will be the first of three models "Dream Garage”, embodying the new era of the brand. We will have to wait until next Tuesday, May 9, when it will become official in a presentation to be broadcast live. Will we be right or will we be wrong? That day we will leave doubts.
