Why does the car heat up? Common faults and breakdowns

Reasons why the car overheats

The cooling system is responsible for maintaining the engine temperature within the optimum values for its operation. There are several reasons why it can stop working properly with the consequent car engine heating. Here we detail the most common:

Reasons why a car engine overheats

Clogged radiator

A clogged radiator is a common cause of a car overheating if it is very old.

overheating of an engine could be caused by clogging of the internal circuit of the radiator. Rust and impurities cause the coolant to not circulate properly through the radiator and the rest of the cooling lines. Thus it is recommended to use a cooling system cleaner once every two years when the car is already old, after what there is to drain the antifreeze from the cooling circuit  and then refill it.

Loss of coolant

Fluid loss from expansion tank

Another cause of the car overheating could be loss of coolant due to a leak in the radiator, the hoses or the water pump. Keep in mind that the latter is the heart of the entire cooling system, since it is in charge of moving the coolant throughout the circuit.

Coolant loss could also be due to a bad radiator cap. In this case, it would not withstand the pressure of the radiator and the coolant would leak out, causing the engine to overheat.

To solve it, we recommend that you take it to a workshop. However, if you need to get out of a pinch, there are some do-it-yourself remedies if your car is leaking antifreeze, with the help of a few simple tools.

The car is heated by a bad water pump

Although the entire refrigeration circuit is in good condition, without leaks or obstructions, the problem may be that the refrigerant does not circulate through it. This is handled by the Water Pump, that if it does not do its job the fluid will not travel from the engine to the radiator and will heat up to damage the engine.

If that is your case, you should replace it as soon as possible and not use the vehicle until the problem is fixed. Otherwise, the workshop bill could rise much much more with faults such as the head gasket.

Bad electric fan

If the car gets hot, check the radiator fan.

Another cooling system parts What needs to be checked is electric radiator fan. Its function is to pass air from outside the vehicle through the radiator and thus prevent the car from heating up. It usually works when the car is being demanded a lot, when we are moving at low speed or when we stop so that it does not exceed the appropriate temperature for its operation.

The temperature at which the main radiator fan is usually activated is 94ºC (although this depends on the model). If this does not happen, the problem is usually in the wiring or in the thermocontact which activates it.

One of the situations where you have to work the most is in traffic jams. The car has to constantly start and stop with no airflow to cool it. Also, even at high speeds, it can also work to support incoming air, if the car is subjected to heavy use.

Dirty radiator or bent fins

If the car overheats, check to see if you have a dirty radiator.

The fan may be working properly but the radiator is dirty. This can happen when you have driven through areas with a lot of mud, sand, leaves or any other element that can clog it enough so that the air does not circulate through it. Something that happens much more frequently to off-road vehicles or SUVs that usually move through the field.

to clean it, everything that prevents direct contact of the metal with the air must be removed. For this, the most common is to use pressurized water through the car grill. However, if the dirt is very embedded there are times when it is necessary to remove the bumper and use more effective measures.

The maintenance of our radiator

For example, you can use a brush and soap (or specific product), and then rinse it with pressurized water, making sure that there are no remains. Be careful not to damage the radiator's thin metal sheets (also called fins). Use the brush gently and always in the direction of the grooves.

If the fins are bent, can be straightened with a fin comb for radiator. It is a cheap tool that comes with several measures for each type of radiator. As an emergency remedy, there are also people who have used the right size saw blade for their radiator. We advise against it because using such a hard metal tool can seriously damage your radiator. And with a pitted radiator, if you have a serious reason why the car heats up.

bad thermostat

Cooling system thermostat

Un bad thermostat It can also be a cause of the car overheating. This is a part that opens and closes the flow of coolant between the engine and the radiator. It opens when the engine is hot, so the radiator starts to cool down, and it stays closed when the engine is cold, so it can warm up quickly, without the radiator sucking heat away prematurely.

Si thermostat sticks when closed, the liquid will never reach the radiator. This causes the temperature to continue to rise while the engine is running, without the cooling system being able to do its job.

Related article:
The car thermostat: what is it, what types are there and where is it

The opposite can also happen: when the thermostat stops working it stays open. This case does not concern us in this article because the car does not heat up. The consequence is that the engine will take a long time to warm up to its optimum operating temperature. The consequences of this breakdown are early wear of its parts and higher fuel consumption.

There is a usual trick to check the thermostat of our car easily. it involves putting your hand on the upper radiator hose with the engine running. If we notice it at room temperature, it can be said that the thermostat It is in poor condition and we have found the problem that causes the engine to overheat.

New thermostat if car overheats

In any case, If the thermostat is not working properly, it should be replaced, not removed.. If this part is removed because it does not allow the engine to cool, the liquid will move freely (even more than if it is stuck in the open position), so you can create more problems than you want to solve.

Be careful with the coolant

Finally, we have the coolant or antifreeze liquid itself. this fluid can withstand high and low temperatures. In order for it to perform its function correctly, water should not be used instead, as it would facilitate the appearance of rust in the cooling system, favoring many of the aforementioned breakdowns.

They sell it already prepared directly for little money. But the coolant could be a mixture of 50% distilled water and 50% pure antifreeze. It is convenient to renew it every 2 or 4 years and in a trusted workshop you can make sure that it is replaced correctly. However, you can change antifreeze of the car yourself if you have the necessary tools.

Antifreeze liquid from a car engine in the expansion tank

It is also not advisable to mix different antifreeze liquids because some of them are not compatible. The main problem usually comes if an antifreeze is combined organic and one inorganic. A chemical reaction will be caused that will create sludge that can clog the system or at least reduce its cooling capacity. Which can cause the engine to overheat in extreme cases.

In addition to this, it is also not advisable to mix some types of antifreeze, even if they are organic. Antifreeze should never be mixed G11 and G12. And it is not recommended to mix G12 or G12+ with the G13,because it loses anti-corrosion properties. In the following article you have more details about this:

What happens if the car overheats

Overheating of an engine causes serious breakdowns that can lead to very high workshop bills. The best known of all in the head gasket failure, which literally opens the engine and causes, for example, antifreeze and oil leaks. A common way to detect it is mixture of both liquids in the expansion vessel. Although it can also be given through the oil cooler.

Why does the car get hot?

Another serious problem caused by overheating the car is a excess stress in the cylinders. Metals expand more than they should and friction increases. For example, with enlargement of the pistons inside the cylinders. This is more pronounced if the material is the aluminum, because it dilates two or three times more than iron.

Excess heat can also damage the valves prematurely and the components related to them. This can even cause them to lose the necessary tightness to seal the combustion chamber. Finally, coolant can boil and cause leaks from the radiator, hoses or other components of the cooling system.

What to take in the car in case of overheating

If the car overheats, it is advisable to have a small flashlight, a bottle of water, antifreeze y brake fluid in the car. Likewise, it is necessary to be clear about the basic knowledge that we indicate here about engine overheating. This can help us save money and a trip to the mechanic. Still, if the car continues to overheat, it's best to take it to a mechanic as soon as possible for a quick checkup.

car radiator

In short, if the car overheats...

Cooling system is in charge of controlling the engine temperature, there are several causes for a overheated engine among them we have the following.

  • If the car overheats, the cause could be a clogged radiator, this would cause the coolant to not circulate properly. Therefore, it is recommended to use a cleaner once a year. You could also find a radiator cap in poor condition, it would not withstand the pressure exerted on the radiator, this would cause loss of coolant and consequently engine overheating.
  • Another cause could be loss of coolant, this due to leaks in the radiator, in hoses, in the water pump, it should be noted that this is the heart of the entire cooling system since it is in charge of circulating the coolant.
  • It is also due check electric fan of the radiator, whose function is to pass air from outside the vehicle through the radiator and thus be able to dissipate its heat.
  • Un bad thermostat, clogged by rust which causes the coolant to not reach the radiator to be cooled by the fan will result in overheating. This piece must be changed since doing without it would bring other problems such as fuel consumption since the engine would work relatively cold.
  • Last we have the coolant. This liquid can withstand high and low temperatures. So if the car gets hot it won't boil easily. For this reason, water should not be used in the engine as it would facilitate the appearance of rust in the cooling system. The coolant could be an antifreeze that should be used in a ratio of 50% water and 50% antifreeze.

I have a problem with a volvo 123, it does not heat up, a kind of vacuum is formed, that is the impression when you put your hand in the radiator water inlet, the operation is normal, but when the engine is turned off the water begins to drain from the radiator, A hydrostatic test was carried out on the 6 cylinder heads, they are fine, I thought that some shirt was cracked, the 6 new shirts were changed again, and they did not improve at all.

This problem drags on since the water pump failed, 2 pumps have already been changed because the turbines were stung quickly.

If anyone has had a similar problem feel free to tell me.

For silo it pulls the compression through some orifice. It's the first thing, I'll tell you more later

mmmmmm well the answers they give are interesting. And now I tell you this information if your mechanic has already checked the entire cooling system. so that you inspect the other systems, the engine also overheats when, for example: the turbo, or the intake, or the lubrication system is bad. Well, finally, the engine is not only warm because the cooling system is bad, but also because of many other things.
For the person who wrote that water came out of the radiator, it may be that there is air inside, that is why the water pours out, the solution would be to purge the system, all vehicles have an air purge system. Anyway, hopefully it will be of some use to you bye.

      Edwin Pacheco said

engine heating due to travel, 3 causes must be checked:
1._The radiator cap may be leaking water pressure
2._The thermostat needs revision or cleaning.
    3._Check the fan.
If valve calibration has been carried out, check that it has been done with the calibration in the vehicle's engine manual.
Note: If the valve calibration was performed incorrectly, it is most likely that the above is in good condition.
The bad calibration of valves produces greater effort and overheating of the engine.

billy, your Lumina does not have a valve, it has a temperature sensor which tells the computer when it should turn on the fan, possibly it is damaged, or a cable is defective.
you could take it to an electrical technician or a workshop where they can check it more professionally

For you Jose Luis... you already did everything you could for your KIA. The only thing left is the head gasket that shows symptoms of overheating... but before you finish repairing the head of your car, it would be better to check the temperature sensor very well, since in new cars it is the one that serves as a switch to turn on the fans I hope and serve my comment, I am a mechanic and I have 6 years of experience in engine repair

      Benjamin Gonzalez said

Octavio, I have experience with Cadillac's 4.6 norsthar engines, and if your fans are working as they should be, the only thing left is the gaskets on the cylinder heads or heads are broken, I want to tell you that many of the repairs I have done on those engines They are for that reason. Because the engine is made of aluminum, it is more sensitive to heat and one time it overheats is more than enough to ruin your engine. Repairing it is very expensive, but it is a good job if you only carry it out with qualified personnel.

    Luck ………..

When I uncover the water base, I realize that the flow of water is normal, but when I start it up, I pour it out because of the base, who can give me a hand?

but presumably after 25 days you have to give it a retightening, because with the heat the packaging gives of itself and the same thing can happen again, and it is that it vomits it because the compression pressure goes towards the refrigerant ducts, greetings

I have a mitsubishi lancer touring year 2002, 2.0 engine, and it is overheating
It has no leaks in the system, the radiator is clean, the electro fans work well, the radiator cap works well because I tried it with another cap of a vehicle, I use green coolant as well, I would like some guidance on purging the system, how to do it if it is cold or hot and if the vehicle needs to be on, I thank you in advance and I look forward to your response soon.

      Tony said

Hello Cesar, you must fill the radiator when cold, then you warm up the engine and let it cool again, so you make the thermostat open and then fill the radiator again when cold, if that is not the problem, then you must have a bottle of water or green liquid somewhere, it must be very small that you do not notice it, check the unions of the hoses with the radiator and the engine that do not have rust or green stains, where you get that there is a leak, as I told you the leak can be small that only leaks when heating the engine in the form of steam and little by little it empties the system to a level that the car overheats, I recommend that you clean and then do the test to notice the difference, good luck

      Tony said

Hello Andres, I think your problem is with the injection pump, you should take the pump to a test bench so that they can graduate it and change the damage, that is done by a bomber, good luck

      Tony said

Hello Yandi, if the engine is not hot and the water spurts out of the gasket, you have problems with the cylinder head, it could be a burnt gasket, bent cylinder head, or a crack in the cylinder head, if otherwise it spurts out when the engine is hot, it could be due to overheating due to a water leak in the system, check the hoses, the water pump, good luck

HELLO I'm from BOLIVIA SANTA CRUZ DE LA SIERRA, I have a Toyota truck from 1973 and the engine heats up a lot, I've already taken several mechanics and they don't give me a solution.
I put water in the radiator and not coolant because they told me that this truck is not for coolant, IS THAT TRUE?

I have a Chevrolet Optra Limited yesterday when I turned on the car, the air conditioning did not cool well and after 20 minutes I parked because I heard a strange noise and it turned out that the whole engine was overheated, I added refrigerant after cooling it and I was able to drive the car, but then when I took a climb or stopped, it overheated to the point of leaving the coolant and began to lose power and the engine started badly as if it was drowned, but the temperature was low, and I must be adding coolant. Could it be a coolant leak?... Could it be the fan?... Could it be the pump?... Could it be a clogged radiator?... Could the engine have suffered from the first overheating? Help me please!!!

           yolanda said

This happens a lot sir. Carlos the optra overheat for anything, many times because the coolant must be put in the measure that the container has, it cannot be missing or exceed the measure, it can also be the radiator cap if it is very used, the oil, if it continues find a good mechanic.

      Tony said

Hi Marcelo, you have to check that the water or coolant is circulating well and that you don't have leaks, if you can add coolant that helps to avoid rusting the circuit, the water contains hardness and with heat it adheres to the walls of the block and makes it difficult to cool down, If it doesn't fail you, you just have overheating, clean the circuit with some liquid that they sell for that, then add refrigerant or water and make sure you don't have leaks, normally you don't have to add water, if you have to add it every day, you have drain
    luck

      Tony said

Hello carlos, it could be all that you ask, but we are going to rule it out, if the car when cold does not fail then the engine is not damaged, otherwise you will surely have a deformed camera, if you are adding water all the time you have a leak in the system, you should check where it could be leaking, notice that when it leaks it leaves colored stains according to the coolant and if it is plain water it leaves rust marks, it will surely leak when heating, which is when it generates pressure and empties the system until it is empty or with little water and it overheats you correct it soon
    luck

Well, in other cases, just reading, I realize that also one of the drawbacks with overheating is that they have already brushed the cylinder head a lot or rectified whatever they want to call that. It is known by looking for the specification of the vehicle and knowing how far it can be rectified for more information 04269028811

      Riyi Castillo said

For those who have checked all the radiator pumps, etc. and the problem continues, the same thing happened to me too, but if I solved it, they would think I was crazy, but the problem was the oil, I was pouring a very thick and bad oil into it, and the ducts galleries of the engine were very small and the oil took a long time to go through all the parts of the engine after having done maintenance on the radiator having bought its original cap and I did 1000 things I put a finer oil less viscous and of good quality remember that oil also serves as engine coolant because it helps disperse heat for more information 04269028811

Yesterday I sent it to the mechanic and he closed the thermostat, because according to him, that part only causes problems for the cars. I check where the antifreeze and water go through and he told me it was fine. and to take it to an electrician to check the fan. Since the moment you turn on the car the fan turns on and because of that circumstance it eats the battery.

I've heard that diesel cars overheat once and then do it again. Is this true, if so, I already know I'm selling… then a light appeared on the dashboard of an engine with a scratch in the middle, I read somewhere that it has something to do with the injection, could you guide me a bit because that could be it??? For all those who question heating details in 4-stroke combustion engines (cars), I give you a tip from a professional technician. First of all, check the correct timing of the timing points in the crankshaft gears and the camshaft(s). since a valve overlap (exact moment in which the change of exhaust and intake valves is carried out in correct operation without crooked valves) are indicative of an excellent normal working system, together with the operation of a good water pump, a good antifreeze and an unobstructed fluid system, hoses, pipes, etc., or a clogged radiator, an excellent thermostat. Check this because a thermostat from Canada is not the same as one from Mexico, due to the temperature, that is, it must be correct and indicated by the engine manufacturer. correct oil because not all oils are designed especially for x motor remember that an oil also has special characteristics
the cooling fan, whether manual or electric, and the engine revolutions when cold or low, should be indicators to follow, ok, good bye

check the packaging, maybe water got into the engine, you shouldn't mess around when you overheat the engine, it mixes with the oil and it looks half milky in color, preferable to save it and take it to your mechanic to see the faults, many times it's because You need to lower the cylinder head or cover the holes where the packing coincides, it is a very detailed little job. From time to time the radiator must be maintained, many times it tends to get dirt and scale even more so if you only put water on it, it fills with rust

         isiandraderuk said

When you reheat it, the cylinder head twisted, surely it was a lot and it broke, that's why oil passes into the water and biceversa, the coolant is consumed because it passes to the pistons and the combustion burns it, what you should do is go to the mechanic to check the cylinder head if it is crooked It is brushed and gaskets are changed and keda ok if it broke it would have to be rerouted but look for the new cylinder head.

I remove the thermostat. the crankshaft seals so I usually run it with a quart of oil or less because it throws it away they told me that the heating can be due to the fact that the cars when running them without oil also heat up because the parts create friction
This is true since I had never heard of it

When it is cold, the water is just barely warm and returns to its level, or when it does the shekels.

It could be the thermostat that stuck and also damaged the antifreeze cap. That happened to a 2007 Malibu that had the antifreeze thrown out and the car overheated.

I have a 2001 shade, three cylinder the timing belt or band broke and I blew five valves (3 intake and 2 exhaust, I changed them and accepted new six valves all 3 and 3 I reassembled the engine and new timing band I synchronized the engine and started it, I felt it overaccelerated and it did not take minimum, I waited for the ECM to send signals again to recover all the factory default values, but the engine began to accelerate and started to accelerate, I tried to place the points different from the distributor and the fault continued , turn off and check the IAC valve, the fault continued but I had to lower the camera again since the engine shook badly and made a strange noise, so I moved the engine manually and decided that piston #3 was stuck before reaching TDC I lowered the chamber and I was surprised that two pieces of the intake valve guide had broken and found themselves between the piston and the chamber. Piston #3 did not explode since the camera's position was the same, what should I do next? to take to rectify the camera?, I must change the connecting rod of piston #3; When assembling should I change the AIC sensor? I appreciate recommendations to reassemble said engine and put it into operation and the possible failures already described above for better help, thanks??????….

Hello, I have been reading and I observe that cars that have been repaired by mechanics present overheating and I would recommend everyone to have the air conditioning radiator checked, because if that radiator is covered it does not let air pass through the water radiator. I also recommend to the person who made the engine completely new that it may be that the engine was too tight and I would recommend that they change the oil for one that is thinner; such as 15 40 multigrade, and see if it continues to heat. If it heats up, it may be that the torque applied to it was too great for that type of engine. Check torque with vehicle manual. Another thing that may be happening is that the oil pump is not sending enough pressure and that can cause the engine to overheat. Check oil pressure.

hello I have a ford focus 1.8 gasoline and the strange thing is that the vehicle does not raise the temperature or overheat but in two months I burst two coolant water tanks, as there is more pressure than adequate, they told me that is why it starts to deform the cylinder head of the ford romcam engine but I am not convinced that it is deformed or that the gasket burns because I have no signal, I just have more pressure than normal and the water bottle bursts, could it be the thermostat? or the radiator is dirty or blocked?

         cnesjoel2011 said

Good morning Ces, that happened to my car and it was that the head was crooked due to overheating. I took it out and took it to be brushed and when I mounted it the problem was solved.
What happens is that when the head is twisted, air is passed into the cooling circuit and since it has nowhere to go, the radiator cap bursts.

I took it ninente to the dealer and they didn't find anything, well they thought it was the alternator, but it's new and so is the battery. I checked and it was a power switch. Well, the light came back on, but after 3 days it went out. Today I was driving it and at stop it started to shake very badly. I parked and opened the hood and the engine moved as if it were loose. what you should do is do a test check the water if it lacks you fill it up to the measure then you leave it without the radiator of course you do this when the car is cold and then you turn it on and see if the radiator does not bubble upwards yes It doesn't do it, it's fine, you could change the lid that may be expired and you should also check if the electric fan is working properly. you should check if it doesn't have leaks through the hoses if you already changed the thermostat then it could be the water pump.

Hello everyone, I have a serious problem in my Renault Laguna 1.8 gasoline from 1997. A few days ago on a trip through I noticed that the temperature was shooting up, the air conditioning was connected due to the heat, when I saw this I removed the air and the needle It went down until it reached the third temperature line, still high, but it went up again very high, in that position it went down a little, it went up, it went down and it went back up, I decided to stop the engine, start it again and it started to mark the temperature well. I was fine for a few days, and suddenly I did the same thing again on the road, I stopped the engine and started again, and once again the temperature returned to its normal state. I took the vehicle to a mechanic, he changed the valve of the electric fan, the vehicle made a trip and it was perfect, and again today it did the same thing to me on the road, again I stopped the engine, I started it and again the temperature put it in its usual place. What could this fault be and if it is serious for the engine, thank you very much greetings to all.

hello I have a mazda 929 81 automatic it comes with air that I never use I did the entire engine and they changed the gasoline, oil and water pump, all new hoses, the mechanic gave it to me and told me to work it to soften and sai and I did about 10km with heavy traffic and when I had to make an ascent it cost a lot almost that it seems that I had to push it and then as if I had no reaction after about 5km I had no reaction I stopped and I saw that the radiator was boiling, I turned it off, the marker indicated less than 50 degrees and it has a direct fan that when the car starts up it already starts to run and the antifreeze tank is full and it still boiled after 20m I took off the lid and poured distilled water directly into the radiator and lowered the temperature to zero temperature cooled right away and the gauge was at zero, I started it I started it well and went home and when I parked I opened the hood to see if I could hear the water as if it was boiling again when I turned off the engine, the mechanic left me He is thinking a lot and he tells me to put an electro, and other acquaintances say that it is not necessary to spend so much money that it could be the thermostat, the truth is, I don't know what it could be, someone can give me some advice if they give me an answer or an idea, this is my mail dysam2002@hotmail.com

Hello! I have a 2001 Honda Accord Coupe EX-R with a V6 3.0 engine (J30A1) that works fine for me in the city, staying at optimum temperature all the time, however, when I take it out on the highway and bring it to speeds above 230 Km/h or on very steep climbs, the temperature rises almost to the limit (reaching the red line) and I have to turn it off and wait for the temperature to drop with both motor fans on so that it returns to its normal temperature, well if I leave it on, the temperature does not decrease and it only starts to throw the coolant through the recovery tank (even with the motorized fans on). If I work it in the city, or on the highway at speeds below 140 km/h for periods of less than 3 hours, nothing happens, except that I must add 250 ml. of refrigerant per month. I have already replaced the radiator and most of the cooling system hoses (which were dry or swollen), as well as the water pump (which had moderate corrosion) and the radiator cap (which opened the valve less than 8 lbs). I have tested the fan motor relays and they operate correctly; I cleaned the v-tech valve and solenoids and replaced the filter/gasket on it; I checked compression on all 6 pistons and they are within tolerance (120, 115, 120, 120, 120, 115); I ran a diagnostic on the ECU and originally it didn't give me anything, but recently it gives me an intermittent v-tech system fault code. I have found no presence of oil in the cooling system or any contamination in the oil. I am currently using Synthetic 5w30 oil with a filter for synthetic oil. It is worth mentioning that the vehicle since I bought it did not have the thermostat. According to the Honda mechanics manual, it tells me that I have to open the heads and check for signs of corrosion, and if necessary, brush them and repack them. Any suggestion??

Hello. Too bad for your mechanic, the first thing is to change the gasket on the cover, then take the head to a trusted grinder to tell you its status. You will not believe it, but a motor cover a little lower than what the motor requires causes it to overheat. Check the latter, if the motor and cover are not compatible, you will have to change the cover. A good option is also to check the internal coolant lines inside the engine, they could be clogged. Luck.

    hello.
    manual fortnight

I would like to know if before you changed the gaskets you had the problem of overheating,
If your problem is prior to the change, it is possibly due to a coolant leak, a malfunction of the temperature sensor (the fan does not work properly, it does not turn on when it should), it may also be due to a defective or stuck thermostat.
About the fact that water comes out of the exhaust has nothing to do with overheating, if it were a problem about water passing from the engine to the exhaust there would be problems in the engine and it would have several problems, not only heating but loss of power, milky oil (for mixing with water) etcccc,
But it is normal for water to come out of the exhaust because every vehicle has a catalytic converter that reduces the gas emissions emitted by the vehicle, such as carbon monoxide, by converting those gases into water...

      HELLO

LOOK FIRST OF NOTHING THE FAILURE MAY ALSO DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE CLOCK OF THE CONTROL PANEL SIMPLY WORKING BADLY, ONE WAY TO KNOW IF YOUR VEHICLE'S ENGINE REALLY OVERHEATS IS WHEN YOU HAVE THE METER MARKING THAT IT IS OVERHEATING, THE VEHICLE LOSES STRENGTH, A BURNED OIL ODOR STARTS TO COME OUT, THE RADIATOR FAN IS CONSTANTLY ON, IT DOESN'T TURN OFF, THE WATER RESERVE TANK IS EMPTY, BEGINS IT STARTS TO BOIL OR BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE OF THE WATER VAPOR, THERE IS A SOUND LIKE RINGING RINGS WHEN I ACCELERATE THE ENGINE ……………….. IF IT DOES NOT DO ANYTHING ABOVE I HAVE COMPLETELY DESCRIBED THE FAULT MAY BE DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE CLOCK BAD OOOOOOOOOOO (APART FROM THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR WHICH ONLY MAKES THE FAN WORK WHEN IT REACHES A CERTAIN TEMPERATURE THERE IS ANOTHER SENSOR THAT SEND A SIGNAL TO THE CLOCK ON THE CONTROL BOARD TO INDICATE THE TEMPERATURE AT WHICH THE ENGINE IS, THEREFORE IF IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY OF THE SIGNALS DESCRIBED BEFORE IT IS JUST A MINOR FAULT AND IT DOESN'T REQUIRE AS MUCH WORK.

           Roger said

Very good point from Alexander. There are failures that come alone and others that bring "friends" and that complicates the arrangement. A small crack in the engine head seal causes all your described symptoms, so when the head was brushed and the gaskets were changed, the antifreeze tanks were no longer empty, because the water was no longer leaking. Certainly it is necessary to do what Alexander recommends, but they should also check the radiator very well, since with a broken joint, antifreeze mixes with the oil and this can clog the internal lines of the radiator. That's the bad thing about change-everything mechanics, they don't find the fault and the simplest thing is to change everything until the problem is corrected momentarily, but the problem is not solved or the car is really repaired. For example, if the radiator were clogged and you changed the entire engine, it would work well for a short time until very soon it would again mark an "unjustified" rise in temperature. Check out what Alexander says.

Well, the throttle is behind the air filter and the handler doesn't understand why it turns on quickly in the throttles. It's above deltre #3# and I decided to bleed the two bleed screws, the paddles and the radiator cap. So good, but by weight, they are very strong and I put them in their place. They should go. HELLO CRISTIAN

LOOK AT YOUR PROBLEM IS THE RADIATOR CAP THAT NO LONGER CLOSES HERMETICALLY AND LEAKS STEAM OR WATER INTO THE CLEAR TANK THAT MAY ALSO BE THE RADIATOR (that the base where the radiator cap goes is pitted or worn, you would have to change either the entire radiator or only the upper tub of course if there is this part in your country) BUT FIRST CHANGE THE RADIATOR COVER WHICH DOES NOT COST MUCH PREFERABLY AN ORIGINAL NON-ALTERNATIVE, EYE THAT THERE IS NO OVER PRICE

      HELLO DUCK
If it does not overheat, what happens is that there may be a coolant or water leak through a hose or conduit. If you are sure that there are no liquid losses, the fault may be the radiator cap, how can you tell if the cap is bad, easily check the coolant or water reserve tank and if it is empty then that indicates that the lid is not working

         lexca697 said

      Hello
Look, are you sure that it overheats or is it that it loses coolant and in the absence of coolant, is it overheating? Another is that the loss of coolant is due to the radiator cap failing. Be careful, when the radiator cap fails, the hot water pressure goes to the reservoir. of recerva that in some cases gives the impression that it makes it boil and it loses water.

I have a 2006 suzuki alto, the water in the radiator goes away after a few kilometers traveled without any apparent cause, the water goes away due to overheating, they have changed the thermostat, radiator, rectified the cylinder head and there is no case, the water evaporates just as mechanically as I have consulted they have given me pure evasions and none has found the problem, what could it be?

Hello good morning if anyone knows about the subject I appreciate your help. The story is as follows: I took my automatic mazda 3 to change the gearbox retainer gasket. The former mechanic changed the gasket for me and gave me the car. When I was going back home, I felt a blow to the engine and the The box stopped changing gears, I took it back to the workshop, the "mechanical" guy got in the car and we went out to check the damage and I tried to engage the black box with success, at that moment a hose came loose q transports the coolant through the engine to the radiator and the engine overheated at 130 degrees a loud rattling noise was heard so we walked about 200 meters to the workshop we turned off the car and turned it on again the parked car does not make any noise the guy It says that nothing happened to the engine, it is only to square the box and fill with coolant and the problem is solved. I would like to know what consequences this fact brings to the vehicle. had left badly installed

Friends help me urgently I have a 4 Chevrolet colorado 2006-cylinder pickup and it heats up I already took it like 15 mechanics and I only spent money the heating persists to start I probed the radiator and then I put an electric fan on it because with air it heated up more and Finally, they removed the thermostat and it still heats up almost three quarters with air or without air. I don't know what to do to avoid spending so much for pleasure. wilber_1975@hotmail.com my number 75601841, the cylinder head gasket cannot be because the water from the radiator does not heat anything..

I have a kia k2700, model 2007. On one occasion it overheated and the head gasket was changed and so on. But the reason for the warming could not be determined. It is still heating, the water leaves the radiator and goes to the auxiliary tank but does not return to the radiator. Good thermostat, we changed the cap, the pump is fine, the radiator is fine. Bad temp gauge and we couldn't find why it doesn't work. Does not use oil.

         alkex said

      Hello
first they checked the temperature sensor (thermoswitch) this is responsible for making the radiator fan work to lower the coolant temperature and not overheat the engine if it works well you just have to check if the radiator cap works well this is not very expensive you can change it and if it continues to pass coolant from the radiator to the fuel tank, the fault would be the seat where the radiator cap rests

      Roger Barrantes said

Thank you very much Alkex, I will ask the mechanic if I check the sensor and then follow your advice.

Hello friends, I have the following problem, I have a Ssangyong Rexton. Year 2003 motor 2.9, which when it goes flat at any speed, maintains its temperature well, but if I face an ascent and hurry it up a bit, the temperature begins to rise considerably to the point that I have to slow down.
Changed thermostat and nothing happens. I fear that the radiator may be clogged, allowing a certain amount of water to pass through, but enough for the corresponding recirculation.

I consult them, when the engine is at its working temperature. Should the radiator inlet and outlet hoses be hot, or at a similar temperature?

I'd appreciate replying if anyone knows.

    thanks patrick

I honestly don't know what it could be. I need help, it's already a lot that I've spent.

Hello!!! good morning, afternoon, evening, etc. I would like someone to give me some tips on overheating a 350 V-8 Chevrolet engine. It turns out that said motor was ring by changing the block or monoblok, the 1st monoblok is with an oval cover and the one that is ring is with a cover as it is known striped. with the spider from the previous one, the engine works very well, but I have a heating problem, the engine does not have a thermostat, the pump has already been fixed and the radiator has already been probed, and it continues to heat up, this happens in less than 10 to 15 minutes I have seen that the water returns through the filling inlet, that is, it does not even have enough circulation.
I hope someone can give me a hand.

    Thank you in advance.

Gentlemen: I have a Renault Megane Model 2003, it happens that when I walk slowly the temperature rises and I have to turn on the air conditioning to lower the temperature, what could be happening? I appreciate your maximum collaboration.

      Vile Roger said

well I have read and I leave you a general advice I hope you find it, N ° 1: The engine repaired and brushed the cylinder head must be adjusted gradually, that is to say once the gasket is put on we adjust the bolts and that's it, we turn on the car we give a few laps to the The next day we readjust the bolts, and so on three times, because the temperature of the engine makes it constantly expand and at the same time contract due to changes in temperature, if they repaired your car and did not do that, it may be that this is the cause of overheating consult your mechanic if he did that, I say this from my own experience. N°2: if you see that your car is overheating and the radiator is cold, it means that the engine is boiling the water, it turns into steam and fills in the radiator duct, so the air found quickly cools the radiator and one when it is cold, the steam generated stays in the radiator because it is above the engine and the air tends to rise, this prevents water from entering the radiator, this happens because the gasket is blown, that is, it needs to be changed and such brush once on the cylinder head and do what is described in point 1.

      Vile Roger said

In general, overheating is due to consumption or loss of water, if one sees the thermosuit and it works well and the fans are also good, that is the cause and this is due to a poor state of packaging and cylinder head, one revia and not there leak because the leak is taking place internally and at the same time dries up due to the heat of the engine, the coolant water of an engine in good condition lasts a year without problems, you should never use tap water, nor battery water and distilled water Just use a good coolant and you're good to go. each thing has its function.

I have a 1998 American Pontiac, I suggest checking the oil pump, checking the air conditioning radiator and cleaning it, changing the catalytic converter Bad news that I would not like to give is that if the car throws water out of the exhaust it is a symptom of that The car's heads are already wrong and it will no longer be able to move soon because for greater precision, do not even turn it on, fix it with an expert mechanic in each brand of car as appropriate, this may be an effect of using 100% water because the joints are burned or packaging of any machine, I am of the opinion to use antifreeze of 1a. quality with a minimum of water and that consulted by the experts has to be purified jug water

Hello, I need someone to help me. I tell you that I made the engine of my chevrolet c10 truck and when the mechanic gave it to me I told him that it felt hot and I checked the water in the scratcher and it was always missing and I asked him and he did not pay much attention to me he told me that it was normal and about 3 days later I overheated and the oil turned to coffee with milk and I disarmed and took the chambers to a grinder and the chambers bent and gave me pain because of bad torque. I had another mechanic do the job and the water keeps disappearing and that has me worried. I asked the mechanic why he checked the oil on the dipstick and it looks milky and the mechanic tells me it is because it had residue from the previous oil.
.. I really don't want to be like this since the expense was very high and I don't have a job. Can somebody help me? Could it have something to do with the cap or the hose? Help me
