Last Saturday Volkswagen Spain organized an event of those that really improve the brand image and create enthusiasm for a product. They called it “The Great Golf"and the reason for this meeting was none other than to celebrate, in style, the 50 anniversary of one of the most iconic cars in the history of the automobile, the Volkswagen Golf.
The Spanish subsidiary of the German brand created an unforgettable event on Saturday for all the Golf enthusiasts who met at the Marugan airfield, in the province of Segovia. Only 13 minutes after the registration process opened, the full sign had to be posted. Entry was free, you just had to go in a Golf.
At the aforementioned airfield we were able to see Nearly 700 Volkswagen Golfs from all 8 generations manufactured since 1974. We also saw units of all kinds. From perfectly preserved and completely standard models, to some more modified and personalized ones. Also special versions and others much simpler. As I said, the only requirement was that it had to be a Golf, it didn't matter which one.

All attendees could Walk along the airfield runway and various parking lots enjoying the different units. The atmosphere was fantastic, seeing people of all ages telling anecdotes and curiosities about the different versions. Among them, the GTI versions predominated, but there were also VR6, R32, R and even many TDI variants.
All this was accompanied by bars with drinks, foodtrucks, a tattoo area, merchandising shops and good music with renowned bands and DJs. DJ Nano, Pignoise, Pepe and Vizio, Dani del Lio, DJ Ardilla and DJ Kike Verdeal made us dance as the icing on the cake of the spectacular day we experienced on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Marugán airfield with La Gran Golfada and the 50th birthday of the Volkswagen Golf.
Before finishing, it is important to mention some key data to highlight the history of this car in the world:
- The Golf is the third best-selling car in the world and the first in Europe in history.
- Since 1974 until now, 37 million units have been manufactured.
- There are still 770.000 Volkswagen Golfs of all generations in circulation in Spain.
