Toyota GR86 Yuzu Edition 1

Toyota has announced a new limited edition of its sports coupe GR86Called «Yuzu Edition», which takes the Premium version of the current model as its starting point to incorporate a series of aesthetic and technical elements that evoke Scion-era enthusiasts. This launch is more than just a color change: it is a direct nod to the 1.0 Scion FR-S Release Series 2015, a model remembered by many for its distinctive yellow hue.

This special edition stands out mainly for its exclusive Yuzu Yellow color, a color choice that not only offers a striking aesthetic, but also revives the spirit of the compact sports cars of a decade ago. In that sense, the GR86 Yuzu Edition does not bring a power upgrade, but adds components that enhance the driving experience. Under the hood is the familiar 2.4-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine, with a power output of 228 horses and a maximum torque of 249 Nm, which is associated with a six-speed manual transmission or optionally to an automatic transmission with the same number of ratios.

Distinctive aesthetics with touches of nostalgia…

The GR86 Yuzu Edition combines an aggressive exterior design with thoughtful interior details. On a visual level, the black painted alloy wheels, the rearview mirrors in the same tone and a optional bodykit including front spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser or with a larger spoilerAll of these elements are reminiscent of the tuning world of the 2000s, reinforcing the model's nostalgic aesthetic.

In the cabin, the black upholstery in Ultrasuede-type suede is combined with yellow seams on the seats, gearshift, and steering wheel. This combination seeks to subtly reflect the exterior color without being overwhelming, and maintains the sporty approach and character that defines the model. Exhaust system also can improve in option with a typical configuration cat-back, which modifies the flow after the catalytic converter to deliver a deeper, sportier sound. While this modification doesn't alter engine power, it contributes to enhancing the driving experience.

A technical configuration designed for driving enjoyment…

Toyota GR86 Yuzu Edition 15

Toyota has decided to keep the basic mechanics of the GR86 intact, but has equipped the Yuzu version with elements that improve its dynamic behavior. Among these are some Sachs shock absorbers that offer greater control without sacrificing comfort, and Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers on the front axle and two on the rear, providing more powerful and precise braking.

The weight of the set remains contained, with a value close to 1.270 kg Thanks to the use of aluminum alloys in elements such as the hood, roof, and front fenders, as well as a structure assembled with special adhesives that reduce mass without compromising rigidity. This lightness, combined with the naturally aspirated engine's linear response, remains one of the keys to the GR86's appeal as an accessible sports car.

In terms of benefits, The GR86 Yuzu Edition reaches 100 km/h in 6,1 seconds with manual transmission, or in 6,6 seconds if the automatic transmission is selectedWhile it's not a supercar's performance, it does offer more than enough performance to enjoy on secondary roads and winding tracks, where its playful and balanced character shines through.

A limited edition that will appeal to collectors…

Production of the Toyota GR86 Yuzu Edition is limited to just 860 units for the US market., making it an interesting proposition for both enthusiasts and collectors. Its number is no coincidence, as it refers to the number 86, which has been part of the model's name and history since its inception.

Toyota has not made public the prices for this edition., but they're expected to be available soon, with a view to arriving at dealerships next fall. As this is a limited-edition model, it's likely that units will sell out quickly, especially among the most loyal fans of the model and brand. I wish it would come to Spain...
