This is the "new" BMW 1 Series and these are its official prices

If just a few days ago we got off the restyling of the Audi A3, this same week BMW has revealed all the details of the important update BMW Serie 1, its compact model. The launch is scheduled for October and, as before, it will be manufactured in the Leipzig factory.

Dice BMW that we are facing a new generation. It is true that aesthetically there are very notable novelties, but the truth is that It's more of a deep restyling because the platform and mechanical base are the same. We also remember that this model (designation F40) arrived in 2019, 5 years ago.

Bigger, but be careful with the trunk

Be that as it may, the new BMW 1 Series grows slightly in total length and width, maintaining the distance between the axles. Therefore, it measures 4,43 meters long, 1,80 wide, 1,50 high and its wheelbase is 2,67 meters.

As for the trunk, we talk about 380 or 300 liters capacity depending on the mechanical version. The largest volume is for the units with the 118d and M135i xDrive engine, while the 120 and 120d variants have to settle for 300 liters because they are microhybrids and the high-voltage battery is underneath. Without seeing it live, it seems small with these MHEV variants.

Engines, from 150 to 300 HP

And since we have mentioned the engines of the BMW 1 Series because of the way in which the trunk capacities vary, let's take a closer look at them. The first thing to mention is that the platform is the same and, therefore, we still have transverse engines that send their power to the front wheels. By the way, at the moment all mechanical options are equipped with a dual-clutch gearbox and 7 Steptronic gears.

With gasoline The 120 and M135 xDrive versions appear as fuel. The 120 option has a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine that develops 170 HP and has microhybridization, which is why it receives the Eco badge from the DGT. Then there is the sporty M135 xDrive, with a 2.0 300 HP and four-wheel drive.

A 116 gasoline engine will arrive later. It is also curious that they have now removed the “i” after the number in the names of the gasoline variants.

En diesel we find the 118d and 120d variants, which share a 2-liter four-cylinder engine block. The first produces 150 HP and the second goes up to 163 HP, but the main difference is not the power, but rather that the 120d incorporates the mild hybrid system and, therefore, benefits from the eco label.

Dynamic adjustments that improve rigidity

BMW says that in this new 1 Series they have been carried out chassis changes to increase rigidity, in addition to having adjusted other aspects such as the suspension and steering. In fact, they claim to have increased the advance level of the front wheels by 20%, which in theory should provide more comfort when traveling on fast roads.

The alloy wheels are 17, 18 or 19 inches depending on equipment and configuration. For its part, the package M sport Optional includes the adaptive M chassis, which lowers the vehicle by up to 8 millimeters, sports steering and 18-inch light alloy wheels. Optionally, you can get the aforementioned 19-inch wheels and include an M sports braking system.

The aesthetics change a lot in this 1 BMW 2024 Series

There is no doubt that aesthetically it looks different, especially on the front. The grille completely changes, which now does not have as much height and looks wider, while the headlights have been completely redesigned and are located further apart, more in the upper corners of the bumper.

The rear lights have also changed a lot with this deep restyling, while the four exhaust pipes and the diffuser stand out on the sports M135 and are hidden in the rest of the versions.

Inside we see that, as in the brand's latest launches, the interior looks very minimalist. Starting with the most visible technology, it uses a format of double screen to make instrumentation and multimedia system with more than 10 inches each. The negative part is that the climate controls have also been integrated into the screen.

In the center of the dashboard all the buttons have been lost, leaving now the very hidden air vents and a small compartment. Further towards the center of the cabin we see a pair of bottle holders and a button shift selector instead of the traditional lever. In this area are also located the buttons for the emergency lights, driving modes and quick activation and deactivation of some systems.
