The relationship between Skoda and the world of cycling takes on a new meaning this year with the introduction of the Skoda L&K 130, a unique vehicle based on the Super Combi. This creation is not limited to being a simple design exercise without further logic, but represents a tribute 130 years since the brand began manufacturing bicycles, before moving into motorcycles and, finally, automobiles. Since then, it has been the most sober and sensible brand in the entire Volkswagen Group.
The result of the work of 28 students from the Skoda Vocational SchoolThe L&K 130 is no ordinary proposal. It's the tenth student car produced by its students. A concept that's already a tradition at the Czech manufacturer and marks the first time a Superb has served as the basis for a project of this type. It's also the first model in the program with a plug-in hybrid PHEV powertrain. And the most interesting thing is how it has a cargo bed that can fit several bicycles. Take note of all this...
A radical transformation for the Skoda Superbโฆ
To convert to the known Skoda Superb Combi is a pickup truck adapted to the demands of professional cycling. The students made several significant structural modifications. The roof behind the C-pillars was removed, the body lines were reinforced, and the roof rails were shortened. The rear end was completely redesigned, including a new rear window and a visible separation between the passenger compartment and the open cargo area.
El star detail It's the electrically extendable cargo platform that allows you to comfortably transport up to two bikes on dedicated rails. When retracted, it tilts the bikes up to 35 degrees so the entire package maintains the original size of the family car. A third roof rack makes it easy to carry an extra bike, providing a solution to unforeseen incidents that may arise during a cycling trip.
Innovative solutions and functional design for the Skoda L&K 130โฆ
One of the most notable innovations It's the rear right door, which incorporates a unique sliding mechanism to avoid obstructing the passage of cyclists mid-race. This facilitates rapid intervention by the support team without risk, an idea conceived solely for the context of the Tour de France and other events where Skoda has been collaborating for years. Inside, the interior combines historic colors red, white, gold and black, inspired by the original Laurin & Klement logo, featured on the hood, wheels and steering wheel.
The sport seats feature the "130 Years" emblem, and recyclable materials have been used in most of the finishes. Of particular note is the installation of additional screens to display real-time race data and facilitate communication between team members. Also featured is a large refrigerator and custom-made 3D-printed compartments for essential items, from energy bars to first aid supplies.
Hybrid powertrain and cutting-edge technologyโฆ
Under the hood, the Skoda L&K 130 retains plug-in hybrid system of the Superb iV. It combines a 1.5 hp 150 TSI engine with an electric motor to achieve a total output of 204 hp. The high-capacity 25,7 kWh battery ensures sufficient electric range for the vehicle to fulfill its role as a support car on long tests. However, the conversion and additional weight may slightly limit this figure compared to the production model.
The Skoda L&K 130 is much more than a show carโฆ
This concept car clearly reflects how Skoda combines its tradition with a vision for the future. Its unveiling will take place during the Tour de France, where the connection between Skoda and the world of cycling will once again be evident. This demonstrates their commitment to sport and innovation.
With over 2.000 hours of work invested, this exclusive prototype perfectly encapsulates how Skoda combines tradition with a vision for the future. Technical details, performance-oriented solutions in cycling tests, and a constant nod to founders Laurin and Klement form the DNA of a vehicle that becomes symbol of the brand's cycling and automotive heritage.
