Renault has given a new boost to the urban electric car market in Europe with the official launch of the most affordable version of its iconic model. This is the new Renault 5 E-TECH FiveThe return of the legendary French utility vehicle, now fully electric, responds to the demand of those seeking a practical vehicle for everyday city use, yet with a touch of classic design and plenty of technology. And all this is achieved within an aura of exclusivity that is difficult for its rivals to match.
Since its arrival in October 2024, The Renault 5 E-TECH has achieved significant commercial success in Europe, surpassing 40.000 units sold and becoming the leader in electric sales to individuals both on the continent and in Spain. For this year, the model is among the most popular electric cars, competing head-to-head with rivals such as the Tesla Model 3 or Kia EV3, and especially seeking to attract both new users and those nostalgic for the Supercinco of the 80s.
An affordable, urban electric…
The big attraction of the new Five version is its starting price of 24.950 euros (excluding grants and discounts), a figure that embodies Renault's commitment to bringing electric mobility to the general public. Taking advantage of current incentives, the final cost could be well below €20.000. This is especially true if the MOVES III Plan (for which the brand advances the discount) is applied, along with the delivery of a combustion vehicle, with an additional €800 discount.
It also offers a free home electricity package of up to 30.000 km provided by Iberdrola. French plant in Douai (Ampere) is responsible for producing the model, reinforcing its commitment to European manufacturing and sustainability. The Renault 5 Five takes its cue from the spirit of the legendary Supercinco, but incorporates modern technology and design, while maintaining such distinctive elements as the 18-inch wheels, the electric platform and the multi-link rear axle.
Standard equipment and technology within reach
Inside stands out the openR dual screen: The digital instrument cluster is 7 inches and the central multimedia screen reaches 10 inches. Both are compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, this system allows remote updates (FOTA) and interaction with Artificial Intelligence via the Reno voice assistant. The standard equipment includes full LED headlights, manual climate control, two front USB-C ports, electric parking brake, 60/40 split-folding rear seat and keyless access.
The rear seats are still sufficient for four adults, and the trunk offers a volume of 277 liters, ideal for everyday use. The model also stands out for its very tight turning radius of 10,3 meters, which makes city driving and parking maneuvers much easier.
New range and customization options
With the Five, the Renault 5 E-TECH range extends to five trim levels: Five, Evolution, Techno, Iconic Cinq, and the Roland-Garros special edition. Each offers different levels of equipment and personalized finishes, from the simplicity of the Five to elegant options and superior technology in the higher-spec versions. Pop! Green is standard on the Five, although other options are available, such as gloss black (at an additional cost).
Among the extra options are the home charging cable, all-season tires, and various body paint finishes. Pricing may vary slightly depending on customization and packages selected.
Performance and autonomy designed for everyday use in the city...
In the technical section, Five uses a Front engine with 70 kW (95 hp) and 215 Nm of torque, which offers a sufficient performance for the city and suburban journeys. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12 seconds and reaches a top speed of 130 km/h. 40 kWh battery provides a WLTP cycle approved autonomy of up to 312 km, sufficient to cover urban travel and the needs of most drivers on a daily basis.
Average consumption is around 14,6 kWh/100 km. As for charging, the model is equipped with a 11 kW onboard AC charger. It is possible to go from 15% to 80% battery in approximately 2 hours and 37 minutes using a suitable charging point, although This version does not offer the option of fast charging in direct current., limiting its vocation to urban journeys rather than long trips.
Upcoming versions for greater autonomy and versatile use…
For those who demand more battery capacity or longer journeys, Renault has announced the Evolution version with 52 kWh battery which will arrive from July. It will allow up to 410 kilometers WLTP range and will be equipped with a dual charger: 11 kW bidirectional alternating current and fast charging in direct current of up to 100 kW (from 20% to 80% in half an hour). It also adds automatic air conditioning, heat pump and V2L function to power external devices of up to 3.700 W. These improvements make the Renault 5 E-TECH a more versatile vehicle, adapted for both the city and intercity travel.
