El Goodwood Festival of Speed has become one of the key venues for the leading brands in the automotive sector to present their most relevant new products. In this edition, Porsche has bet heavily on its SUV, the Cayenne, presenting both the new electric version as an exclusive edition, the Black Edition. The event has been a unique opportunity for show the technological evolution of the model and its capabilities in circumstances as varied as asphalt.
And not only that, because the new Cayenne will be much better on rural roads or race tracks. Those attending were able to experience firsthand the Porsche's commitment to electrification and the most dynamic handling without sacrificing versatility. The Cayenne has been seen in various locations at the festival, climbing the legendary hill and demonstrating its potential off-road, reinforcing its image as one of the most complete SUVs on the market.
Records and a sustainable future: the Cayenne Electric raises the bar…
One of the most striking moments has been the Public presentation of the Cayenne Electric prototypeA vehicle still camouflaged, but very close to the final version, has traveled the Goodwood hill climb several times under the baton of Gabriela Jilkova, Porsche's development and simulation driver in Formula E. This electric prototype is leaving its mark: not only has it been a star at the festival, but just a few weeks earlier, it managed to break the record for SUVs in the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, with a time of 31,28 seconds after covering 914 meters and beating the previous record by more than four seconds.
In addition to speed, the Cayenne Electric has shown other surprising qualities, such as acceleration from 0 to 18,3 meters in just 1,94 seconds, metrics previously reserved for racing models. This agility is possible thanks to the innovative Porsche Active Ride active suspension, which keeps the body stable even during sudden changes of support, braking or intense acceleration. Thus, the electric SUV demonstrates a capacity of traction and comfort which allows it to compete not only with combustion variants, but also with purer sports cars.
Unprecedented adaptability and everyday capabilities…
The Cayenne Electric not only seeks master stopwatchesDuring the festival, her more practical side was also put to the test. Towed a vintage vehicle weighing over two tons under the supervision of well-known communicator Richard Hammond, demonstrating a towing capacity of up to 3,5 tons, similar to that of the current combustion-powered Cayenne. This fact is relevant in the context of the Electric SUVs, where versatility is increasingly in demand by drivers.
Porsche's strategy is clear. The Cayenne Electric aims to be a true SUV. It not only combines one agile driving experience and great autonomy for long journeys, but also ensures good off-road performance and daily versatility that few electric models can offer today. The prototype shown at Goodwood made it clear that the future production model doesn't sacrifice performance or functionality.
Cayenne Black Edition and exclusive off-road experience
Along with the media focus on electrification, Porsche has presented the Cayenne Black Edition, a special edition that adds distinction through details in shiny black and more comprehensive standard equipment. Available in SUV and Coupé versions, it can be equipped with three different engines. The interior is reinforced with black brushed aluminum and more comfort technology, such as memory seats and surround sound systems.
In addition, specialized journalists have been able to experience the Cayenne's off-road capabilities on tours through the British countryside, overcoming farm routes and mountainous areas thanks to the adaptive suspension, all-wheel drive, and off-road-specific driving modes. Since its launch in 2002, the Cayenne has maintained its ability to adapt to challenging terrain, and this was once again evident at the festival.
Expectations for production and next steps…
The development of the Porsche Cayenne Electric is not yet complete, and the brand has confirmed that the model seen at Goodwood is quite representative of the version that will arrive at dealerships. Testing and improvements will continue until its Public premiere in Munich at the IAA Mobility in September 2025, where the presentation of new technical innovations which will consolidate Porsche's commitment to electric mobility.
All of this will be achieved without sacrificing sportiness or functionality.
