German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Trucks is immersed in the commemoration of a historic milestone: the 130th anniversary of the world's first motorized truck, created by Gottlieb Daimler in 1896. To celebrate, the company has organized a series of activities that combine tradition and modernity, with a special focus on Europe.
Among the initiatives are a route featuring historic vehicles and the launch of a limited edition Actros L , available with both diesel and electric engines. Both projects aim to pay homage to the origins of road transport while showcasing the sector's technological evolution.
A historical route through the heart of Europe
The Deutschlandfahrt 2026, which kicked off on August 27th at the Wörth plant, is one of the main events. For several days, a caravan of classic trucks and buses will travel approximately 1.086 kilometers through Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands . The journey will conclude on September 6th in Weeze, Germany. This year, the Benelux region takes center stage.
One of the most outstanding vehicles is the 1899 Daimler Motor Truck , one of the oldest pieces the brand has preserved. This truck will share the road with other historic models from different manufacturers, making the gathering an unmissable event for classic vehicle enthusiasts.
A special collector's edition
In addition, Mercedes-Benz Trucks has announced a limited series of 400 Actros L units, called the “130 Years Trucks Edition .” This version will be officially unveiled at the IAA Transportation Show 2026, which will be held in Hanover from September 15 to 20. For the first time, this edition offers a choice between diesel and electric propulsion, under the motto “Legacy meets Passion.”
The model is based on the Actros with the ProCabin cab and incorporates around 30 special features that combine historic colors, materials, and design elements with a contemporary approach. The company will unveil all the details during the event, but has already confirmed that it is aimed at customers and drivers with a strong connection to the brand.
