Mazda has updated one of the few roadsters still present in the European market. The MX-5 arrives with a revised range and a special edition called Yakudo, along with a simpler mechanical configuration. In Spain, it can be chosen with a Soft Top or Retractable Fastback body style, and the Japanese firm thus seeks to maintain interest in a veteran model while talk continues of a future NE and even a possible electric version.
The update isn't limited to changing trim levels. The 2.0-liter 184-hp engine is gone , leaving the lineup with a single naturally aspirated gasoline engine. This decision is accompanied by a sportier setup in certain versions and new equipment features. Published reports agree that the model will retain its rear-wheel drive and manual transmission.
Finishes and equipment of the range
The range is organized into the Prime-Line, Exclusive-Line, Kazari, Homura, and Yakudo trim levels . The entry-level trim already includes front and side airbags, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, automatic headlights, and a rain sensor. It also adds power and heated side mirrors, an 8,8-inch touchscreen, navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, air conditioning, power windows, remote central locking, and cloth upholstery.
The Prime-Line trim level adds a height- and reach-adjustable leather multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, speed limiter, and intelligent speed assist . It also includes rear parking sensors, a driver fatigue detection system, traffic sign recognition, hill start assist, front city braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, tire pressure monitoring, and eCall emergency call system.
The Exclusive-Line trim adds Smart Full LED headlights , Coming and Leaving Home function, automatic anti-glare interior rearview mirror, automatic climate control, smart keyless access, perforated leather upholstery, heated front seats and advanced blind spot control with rear traffic detector.
Above this is the Kazari, which adds a retractable hardtop in Piano Black for the RF body style and tan leather upholstery. In the case of the Homura, the changes are geared towards a sportier approach: heated Recaro seats, designed to improve body support in corners, Bilstein suspension, and an anti-roll bar. Information on dynamic performance also mentions Bilstein dampers, a reinforced front stabilizer bar, Brembo brakes, and 16-inch RAYS wheels on the sportier variants.
The Yakudo special edition is based on the Homura trim level and is exclusive to the soft-top version. It adds a gray soft top, a suede center console with gray stitching, illuminated floor mats with unique emblems, a silver key cover, silver Brembo brake calipers, Alcantara upholstery, and interior door panels that combine the body color with suede and gray stitching.
Mechanics: fewer options, same essence
Under the hood, only the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine remains, producing 136 hp and 155 Nm of torque . This engine gains some power and torque compared to previous iterations, but forgoes the more powerful alternative. A six-speed manual transmission is available, and power is sent to the rear axle, a hallmark of the model.
In terms of fuel consumption, Mazda claims 6,1 liters per 100 kilometers and 139 g/km of CO2 according to the WLTP cycle. Since it lacks electrification, the vehicle retains the DGT's C environmental label. These figures are consistent with a gasoline roadster, although they don't stand out for a hybrid or electric approach.
Prices and availability in Spain
The brand has already announced prices for the Spanish market, effective from September 2026 and without any associated discounts or promotions. The starting price is €33.500 , a figure that places the MX-5 in a unique segment within the convertible sports car market.
The range can be viewed on the model's specifications sheet, and according to the information provided, there are also official dealership offer comparison websites. The average advertised savings exceed €4.000 in these types of searches, although it's advisable to check conditions and availability before finalizing a purchase.
With this update, Mazda keeps the MX-5 alive with a more focused offering, a distinctive Yakudo edition, and equipment that remains comprehensive for a car of its size. The 1.5-liter 136-hp engine, rear-wheel drive, and manual transmission define its character, while its entry-level price in Spain and C environmental rating highlight its key practical advantages.
