This update comes at a crucial time for the SUV, which competes in the demanding premium D-SUV segment against rivals such as the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Audi Q5. With its sights set on the European market, Lexus has prepared a product that strengthens its technological and mechanical capabilities, aiming to maintain its position as a solid and distinctive alternative within the electrified vehicle market.

Mechanics: more autonomy and fast charging for the 450h+

The major mechanical upgrade is found in the Lexus NX 450h+, the plug-in hybrid version. Its lithium-ion battery has been increased from 18 to 23 kWh , allowing for an electric range of over 100 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, a provisional figure representing an almost 40% increase over the previous 70 kilometers. The combined power output of the system reaches 307 hp, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6,1 seconds and a towing capacity of 1.500 kilograms.

Another major innovation is the addition of DC fast charging, a first for Lexus plug-in hybrids. The NX 450h+ can recover from 10% to 80% battery capacity in about 30 minutes , expanding its usability for long journeys without relying solely on home or work charging. It also features an AC outlet of up to 1.500 W for powering small devices.

Meanwhile, the NX 350h, the conventional hybrid variant, maintains its 199 hp output but reduces the weight of its battery from 32,7 to 23,5 kilograms. Thanks to a revised cooling system and a reduction in the number of cells, Lexus announces improvements in acceleration and efficiency, although final figures will be released later. Both hybrid systems comply with Euro 7 emissions standards and adopt the brand's sixth-generation hybrid technology, which integrates the transmission and power control unit into a more compact assembly, saving approximately 10 kilograms and reducing the height by 10 centimeters, thus lowering the center of gravity.

Exterior design: evolution without disruption

Externally, the new NX retains the overall proportions of the current model, although it grows 30 millimeters in length to 4,69 meters. The width remains at 1,86 meters, the height at 1,66 meters, and the wheelbase at 2,69 meters. The double-arrowhead grille is better integrated into the bodywork, and the bright chrome trim has been replaced by dark moldings that give it a more modern look. The three-projector LED headlights are new and incorporate adaptive high beams, while at the rear, a new light signature with 'L'-shaped motifs and an illuminated Lexus emblem are featured.

The F SPORT version adds piano black elements, red brake calipers and 20-inch aerodynamic wheels, as well as specific details on the bumpers to improve airflow.

Interior: Technology and well-being on board

The interior is where the most noticeable changes are. The dashboard adopts a horizontal and minimalist layout, with the 12,3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 14-inch multimedia screen aligned on the same visual axis to reduce eye distractions. The central screen, just 10 millimeters thick, debuts the new Lexus Advanced interface, which is four times faster and boasts 256 GB of memory.

One of the most striking innovations is Lexus Invisible Tech: controls hidden beneath the screen and on the steering wheel that illuminate when the driver approaches them, providing tactile feedback. The steering wheel is also new, with a diameter reduced by 10 millimeters, and the driving position has been lowered to bring it closer to the vehicle's center of gravity.

In the higher trims, Luxury and F SPORT, the Lexus Sensory Concierge system is available, which coordinates ambient lighting, climate control, music, seat temperature, and fragrances developed with Givaudan to create different atmospheres. It offers three preset modes (Inspire, Radiance, and Revitalize) and 50 lighting tones.

Connectivity includes a digital key compatible with iPhone, Android, and Apple Watch, with the option to share access with up to six users. Additionally, there are subscription services such as Connect & Drive and Connect & Secure, which include features like a dashcam and remote immobilizer, although their availability and pricing in Spain have not yet been announced.

Chassis and safety: fine-tuning at the Nürburgring

Lexus has reinforced the NX's structure, increasing floor rigidity by approximately 25% and the front strut tower area by 30% , thanks to the extensive use of laser welding and structural adhesives. New high-strength valve dampers improve roll control without sacrificing comfort, and engine and road noise have been reduced by around 20%.

For the first time in a Lexus model, part of the dynamic tuning was carried out at the Nürburgring circuit, with specific adjustments for European roads. The safety system includes the fourth generation of Lexus Safety System+ as standard, which increases the horizontal field of vision by 115% and the detection distance by 170%. It includes adaptive cruise control with map information, pre-collision assist at intersections, and an emergency stop system that activates if the driver is unable to continue driving.

Range and launch

The European range will be structured in four trim levels: Business, Executive, Luxury, and F Sport. All include standard features such as LED headlights, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, and the new safety package. The higher trims add features such as leather upholstery, a head-up display, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, and the Smart Comfort package with Sensory Concierge.

Pre-sales will begin in autumn 2026, and the first units will arrive at European dealerships in early spring 2027. Prices for Spain have not yet been announced, although they are expected to be slightly higher than those of the current model, which starts at 59.600 euros.

With this update, the Lexus NX reinforces its position in the premium segment, combining greater electric efficiency with a more advanced user experience. The addition of fast charging and a range of over 100 kilometers make the 450h+ a very attractive option for those seeking zero-emissions daily driving without sacrificing the versatility of a hybrid. The new NX arrives to solidify Lexus' commitment to electrification and on-board comfort, with a product that promises to live up to expectations.
