Jaguar is going through a turbulent and complicated time. The Coventry company had been in decline for years and its sales have almost hit rock bottom due to a poor business strategy. This bad situation has been due to the fact that the market has evolved exponentially and its managers have not been able to respond. All this despite the fact that they had one of the first electric SUVs on the market for sale: the vilified and worn-out I-Pace...
Another of the models that was falling into oblivion in the market was the Jaguar XJ. The brand's large premium saloon ceased to be relevant as the Bavarian premiums evolved to their rivals. In any case, it was no longer enough for the brand to evolve its models since the market had lost all interest in them. This is how its reinvention was born under the slogan "Copy Nothing" although before They "killed" the last XJ. And these renders show what it could have been like…
The design of the latest Jaguar XJ was leaked thanks to a model of its development…
If you think back a little you should remember that Jaguar announced the cessation of sales of its entire range. The XE, XF y XJ were no longer going to be available in their commercial network. But "the massacre" was going to go further since the SUV E-Pace It was not selling well either and was therefore also going to be forgotten. Only the F-Pace which, despite its age, was the only model that sold relatively well and without major financial losses.
However, the Coventry company had planned to reinvent itself with a new generation of the XJ. In fact, they had already been working on its development for some time and the investments were largely executed. However, its managers realized that with a model like this they would not be able to break their bad streak. So they cancelled it and gave the brand the twist that we all know. However, the last XJ leaked despite not being finished.
Y Thanks to these renders we know what its design could have been like. The front was notable for the double Full LED optics, which were split in two and sported a new daytime light signature. The grille followed the look already known to the brand, although with a larger size, leaving the bumper a minimum size. In the side view, the big novelty was the hidden handles in the plate or the use of hidden cameras in door moldings.
The design of this latest XJ would have sunk Jaguar even further…
If we move to the rear, we have, in general, few novelties. It is not that there are none, which there are, it is that they are so similar to what the latest Jaguar models offered that they would not have stood out. For example, the Full LED optics that extend across the entire width of the body They are the same as those that the company announced in a teaser some time ago. The problem is that they are very similar to what it offered in other models in its catalogue, such as the XF.
However, there was one new feature that more than one customer would have liked. The cancelled XJ was not going to be a typical old-fashioned sedan but was going to become a liftback with five doors, since access to the trunk was to be through a large tailgate. There are not even leaked images of the interior, so no one has seen how it would have turned out. Not in vain, one expected maximum luxury with well-executed noble materials.
Regarding its powertrain, there is little to say. Jaguar announced that the latest XJ would feature an electric powertrain high-performance car, but with its cancellation we didn't know what it was going to be like. We'll have to wait for the Type 00 Concept to materialize in its final version to find out if anything it presents is inherited from the last XJ. Time will tell why. Jaguar is playing for its present and its future with this ultra mega exclusive model…
