Should I wax the car?

Wax

Many people think that waxing the car isn't necessary. However, waxing, like engine maintenance, is also part of proper car care , so we should take care of our car's paintwork.

The condition of the paintwork doesn't affect how the car drives, nor will it leave you stranded. However, it is a factor that is taken into account when selling the car, or even for the proper maintenance of the car's metal parts .

If we wax our car, we will protect the paint and keep it clean, as we will reduce the effects of daily exposure of the paint to wind, rain, sunlight, hail, or other stains.

Okay, so we know we need to take care of our car's paint and wax the entire bodywork from time to time, but how often should we wax it? Some paint manufacturers recommend waxing your car every six weeks. Others, however, suggest waxing it once a year. As you can see, the time frame is quite broad, so it's best to wax your car whenever you feel it's necessary.

Wax

It also largely depends on how we use the car. It's not the same if it's left outdoors overnight as if it's kept in a garage all day. Therefore, there are many factors that can affect how often we wax our car.

To help us know how often it is advisable to wax our car, we can perform a series of tests that will help us clear up any doubts.

One of these tests is the water droplet test . After washing the car, we should look at the water droplets on the car's surface. If several uniform droplets form, it means the wax layer applied previously is still present. However, if large sheets of water appear instead of uniform droplets , the car will need to be waxed again.

We can also tell if we need to wax the car in another way. After washing and drying our car, we should take a cloth and rub the surface of the bodywork in one direction and then in the opposite direction. If we hear a squeaking sound , it means that the car's paint needs waxing.
