The urban electric car market has a new contender with the arrival of the Geely E2… but it's not just any old car. The E2 arrives with the distinction of being the best-selling car in the Chinese market last year (not the best-selling electric car overall, but the passenger car with the most registrations, ahead of any other gasoline, diesel, or hybrid model). So, we could say that's a big deal. We're talking about a 4,13-meter-long compact car that arrives in Spain as the brand's third model, after the Starray EM-i and the Geely E5. With a clear focus on city driving, this vehicle is built on a GEA platform, features rear-wheel drive, and has been specifically tuned for the European market, with adjustments to the steering, suspension, and electronic driver aids designed for narrow streets, roundabouts, and secondary roads.

The manufacturer aims to carve out a niche in a highly competitive segment, employing a formula that blends an aggressive price with comprehensive equipment. The entry-level version, with a 35 kWh battery and 80 hp, boasts a combined range of 252 kilometers, while the higher-end variants, with a 47 kWh battery and 115 hp, achieve up to 345 kilometers in the WLTP cycle and 497 kilometers in urban driving. All this comes with a starting cash price of €20.280, which, with launch promotions, the Auto+ Plan, and financing options, can be reduced to €13.990 for the PRO trim.

Dimensions and interior space: small on the outside, spacious on the inside

The Geely E2 measures 4.135 mm long, 1.805 mm wide, and 1.580 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2.645 mm. These dimensions translate to an 85% usable space , according to the manufacturer, with five proper seats and a rear bench seat 1.442 mm wide. The trunk offers 375 liters of cargo space, expandable to 1.320 liters with the rear seats folded down. There's also a 70-liter frunk under the front hood, an additional 28 liters under the rear seats, and a 10-liter sliding drawer in front of the passenger seat. The floor is completely flat, and the doors open wide, making it easy for children or people with reduced mobility to get in and out.

Two mechanics, two batteries and one fast recharge

The range is structured into three trim levels (PRO, PRO+, and MAX+) and two powertrain combinations. The base model uses a 60 kW (equivalent to 80 hp) rear motor with a 35 kWh LFP battery, while the other two employ an 85 kW (115 hp) motor and a 47 kWh battery. All three feature rear- wheel drive and independent multi-link rear suspension, a rare feature in this segment that enhances handling.

The turning radius is 4,95 meters, and there are four driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Snow. AC charging is limited to 6,6 kW, but DC fast charging is available in the base version up to 60 kW and in higher trims up to 80 kW, allowing a charge from 30% to 80% in about 25 minutes. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) is also standard, enabling the charging of external devices.

Top-level safety: five stars Euro NCAP

The Geely E2 has achieved the highest possible five-star Euro NCAP rating under the stringent 2026 protocols, and has also earned the same score in ANCAP. The individual scores are impressive: 79% for safe driving, 72% for accident prevention, 86% for collision protection, and 95% for post-impact safety. This excellent rating is supported by seven standard airbags, a body with specific protective features, and up to 23 driver assistance systems , including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, lane keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition. The system combines five millimeter-wave radars and five cameras, and the MAX+ trim adds a 540-degree panoramic camera.

Onboard technology: large screen and full connectivity

Inside, a striking 14,6-inch central touchscreen manages the Flyme Auto multimedia system, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and features 4G connectivity, Bluetooth, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. The 8,8-inch digital instrument cluster displays essential information such as speed, speed limit, and remaining range. The Geely App allows you to control charging, climate control, door locking, and vehicle location. Additionally, the model includes a wireless phone charger, several USB-C ports, and a glove compartment that opens smoothly like a drawer.

Prices and guarantee: the formula for accessibility

The official price of the Geely E2 PRO starts at €20.280 cash, but the launch campaign reduces it to €13.990 in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, provided the purchase is financed and the Auto+ Plan is applied. The promotional price for the PRO+ trim is €16.485, while the MAX+ is priced at €18.485.

These figures include an eight-year or 200.000-kilometer warranty for the vehicle and battery, three years of 24/7 roadside assistance, and two years of free 4G connectivity with 2 GB of data per month. With this price, the E2 positions itself as one of the most attractive options among urban electric vehicles, directly competing with models like the Kia EV2 and the Renault 4.

First contacts and Spanish production

In an initial test drive through the streets of Madrid, the Geely E2 performed very well, offering a comfortable and unpretentious ride . The steering is quite light and pleasant during maneuvers, and also precise enough for everyday use; the suspension effectively absorbs bumps, and on the highway it feels stable, as if it were a larger car. Energy consumption in efficient driving can reach around 11 kWh per 100 km, which in real-world conditions would allow for a range of over 300 kilometers with the 47 kWh battery (although we should mention that during a consumption challenge we achieved 7 kWh/100 km over 50 km).

However, to achieve these figures, you have to use Eco mode and take advantage of engine braking when you lift your foot off the accelerator. The model will soon be assembled at the Almussafes factory (Valencia) , thanks to Geely's arrival in Almussafes , which will not only reduce import costs but also allow access to state and European subsidies, something many Chinese brands cannot yet do.

With a simple yet functional design, a surprisingly spacious interior, and equipment that includes everything needed for daily life, the Geely E2 presents itself as a very serious contender in the demanding urban electric car segment. Its discounted price, proven safety, and the promise of local production make it a direct rival to more established models, although we'll have to wait for more comprehensive tests and the arrival of the first units to see if its initial good performance holds up in extended use. The Chinese brand is committed to a clear strategy: offering a lot for less, and the Spanish public now has a new contender on its radar.
