Denza Z: BYD's electric supercar that challenges Porsche and Ferrari

  • The Denza Z is presented at the Goodwood Festival with three versions: Coupé, Spider and Racing, plus a Special Edition for the Nürburgring.
  • It offers up to 1.604 hp, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 1,96 seconds and reaches 350 km/h in the Racing variant.
  • Its Flash charging system allows you to go from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes, thanks to the second-generation Blade battery.
  • It will arrive in Europe this year with an estimated price of over 100.000 euros, competing directly with the Porsche 911.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed was the stage chosen by DENZA, BYD 's premium brand , to unveil its new flagship: the Denza Z, a 100% electric supercar that promises to revolutionize the segment . With over 1.600 horsepower and acceleration worthy of a Formula 1 car, this model not only aims to take on European giants like Porsche and Ferrari , but also demonstrates the extent of Chinese technology in electric mobility.

The car, which had already been seen as a prototype at the Shanghai Motor Show , now arrives in its final version with three very different body styles: an elegant Coupé, a convertible Spider, and a track-focused Racing version. DENZA has also confirmed a Special Edition optimized for tackling the Nürburgring Nordschleife this coming autumn, boasting over 2.000 hp and a carbon fiber body. The brand is already accepting orders in select markets, and the first deliveries in Europe are expected before the end of the year.

Design and aerodynamics: a living sculpture of speed…

The design is by Wolfgang Egger, the same designer behind the Alfa Romeo 8C, and it shows. The flowing lines and muscular fins create a play of light and shadow that changes depending on the angle . The aggressive front end, with its large air intakes, and the rear with its diamond-shaped taillights give it a sophisticated and sporty character. In the Racing version, which measures 4,87 meters long, the carbon fiber splitter, vortex generators, and adjustable rear wing produce up to 1.060 kg of downforce at 350 km/h. The Special Edition, with its composite body, can reach 2.000 kg of downforce thanks to an active diffuser and a DRS system.

Interior and technology: uncompromising luxury and connectivity…

The Denza Z's cabin is designed with the driver in mind, but passengers aren't forgotten. It features a 2+2 seating configuration, unusual in this segment , and a 250-liter trunk expandable to 550 liters. The racing-style steering wheel includes physical buttons for Track and Boost modes. The digital instrument cluster is 8,88 inches, and the 12,8-inch central screen has Google integration. The Devialet sound system with Dolby Atmos and 12 speakers (10 in the Spider) delivers an immersive experience. Furthermore, Track mode allows you to record G-forces, lap times, and export data via USB, while Boost mode delivers 30% more torque for 20 seconds.

Performance that defies physics…

Under the hood, or rather, under the floor, lies a system of three electric motors: one at the front and two independent motors on the rear axle, spinning at 30.000 rpm. Total power output is 1.604 hp and torque reaches 1.240 Nm , allowing the Coupé to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2,25 seconds and reach a top speed of 300 km/h. The Racing version, with optional semi-slick tires, lowers that time to 1,96 seconds and raises the top speed to 350 km/h. The Special Edition, with over 2.000 hp, promises a sprint in under 1,7 seconds. All of this is managed by the Vehicle Motion Control (VMC) system, which processes data in just 10 milliseconds to adjust braking, suspension, and steering.

Battery and super-fast charging: the end of battery life anxiety…

One of the Denza Z's strengths is its FLASH Charging system. The second-generation Blade battery, with a capacity of 76 kWh, allows charging from 10% to 70% in just five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, even at temperatures as low as -30°C. This is made possible by BYD's ultra-fast charging technology , which delivers up to 1.500 kW of power. The WLTP range varies between 410 km in the Coupé and 380 km in the Racing, more than respectable figures for a supercar. The Cell-to-Body (CTB) integration improves chassis rigidity and frees up interior space.

Commercial launch and estimated prices for Europe…

DENZA has a clear objective: to conquer the European supercar market. The Denza Z will arrive in Spain and the rest of Europe before the end of 2026 , with a price estimated to be above €100.000. The brand has already confirmed its expansion to more than 30 countries with 150 of its own stores, and BYD is building its first European plant in Hungary, which will open at the end of 2026. Meanwhile, the Z is already competing in the public imagination with the Porsche 911 , the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore , and other high-performance sports cars. With its combination of power, ultra-fast charging, and spectacular design, the Denza Z is positioned as one of the most important launches of the year in the automotive world.
