Dacia has officially confirmed the Designing a new affordable electric car, which promises to become an interesting option within the European market. The model, which will cost around 18.000 Euros, will be a step forward compared to the current one Dacia spring, with the advantage that it will be manufactured in Europe.
The announcement was made by Luca de Meo, CEO of the Renault Group, during the presentation of the company's financial results. In this context, the executive explained that the brand seeks to offer an electric car with a competitive price without resorting to production in China, as is currently the case with the Spring.
An urban electric car that will be manufactured in Europe…
The model, still in development, will use a more advanced platform than the Spring, based on the new AmpR Small, the same one that will be used for the future Renault Twingo E-Tech electric. This technical advance will allow it to be better in terms of autonomy, technology and security.
Unlike Spring, which faces challenges due to new European tariffs on Chinese electric cars, this new Dacia will be assembled in Europe, specifically at the Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia. This decision will not only reduce logistics costs, but will also facilitate access to government incentives in countries such as France.
Ultra-rapid development in just 16 months…
One of the most striking aspects of this future electric car is the development time. While the industry usually takes between 36 and 48 months (3 to 4 years) to design and launch a new model, Dacia plans to do it in just 16 monthsThis is a considerable challenge, but the company is confident in its ability to achieve it.
During the presentation, Luca de Meo said: “We challenge any competitor to match our development time”This approach is aimed at speeding up the arrival of affordable electric models on the market, something that European brands have struggled to do quickly in the face of Chinese competition.
Performance and reasonable price…
Dacia's new electric car will have a starting price of 18.000 euros, a figure in which the Romanian company has managed to consolidate itself within the affordable vehicle segment. However, unlike the Spring, it is expected to offer Greater autonomy and better performance.
The use of is being evaluated LFP batteries or even sodium batteries, a technology that Dacia has shown interest in the past, in order to keep costs down without sacrificing efficiency. Although technical details are still limited, it is said to have a range of over 225 kilometres current Spring.
Dacia expands its electric range…
The launch of this model is part of a broader electrification strategy within the Renault Group. This plan includes other models such as the Renault 5 E-Tech and Twingo E-Tech. With these, they also seek to offer affordable solutions within the urban electric car market. More details about this new model are expected in the coming months. With it, they hope to take an important step in accessible electric mobility manufactured in Europe.
