El JAECOO 7 mark the Chery Auto's premium subsidiary debuts in Spain and Europe. This C-segment SUV stands out for its quality and its solid sales arguments. A few years ago, Chinese vehicles were not considered comparable to European ones, but the 7 shows that this is no longer the case. The Chinese firm's managers have provided their model with qualities such as an attractive design and high quality that position it as a strong competitor.

El JAECOO 7 launch has generated a notable impact for several reasons. This model not only aims to win over consumers, but also Strengthens Chery Auto's ambition in Europe. After the success of the OMODA 5, this will be the second Chinese vehicle produced in large volumes in Europe, thanks to the acquisition of the former Nissan plant in Spain. This strategy seeks to guarantee high quality standards and a very efficient technical service.

However, JAECOO does not enter Spain with the intention of competing exclusively on price. It does not intend to be "the new Chinese Dacia", but to position itself as a brand that offers an excellent relationship between quality, price and product. In addition to the JAECOO 7, the brand will soon expand its range with new models. It also has a Logistics center in Guadalajara and backs its vehicles with a 7-year warranty, outperforming many of its competitors.

Technical characteristics of JAECOO 7

Like the OMODA 5, the JAECOO 7 is built on Chery Auto's T1X platform.. This base is shared with models that the Asian manufacturer sells in other markets and that we do not have in Europe. For example, the Chery Tiggo 5X, Chery Tiggo 7 or Exeed LX. Thanks to this platform, its external size is 4,5 meters long, 1,86 meters wide and 1,68 meters high with a wheelbase of 2,67 meters.

In terms of load capacity, it has a Minimum trunk volume of 424 liters that reaches up to 1.349 liters if we fold down the backrests of the rear seats. However, one of the "buts" that can be put to this model is that the 4×4 all-wheel drive version reduces the boot volume to around 340 litres. In addition, it has generous off-road dimensions with an approach angle of 21 degrees and an exit angle of 29 degrees.

On the other hand, the JAECOO 7 is equipped with an electric rack and pinion steering, the level of hardness of which varies depending on the driving mode selected. As for the suspensions, it uses a McPherson system on the front axle and a deformable parallelogram on the rear, complemented by springs and passive stabilizer bars on both axles. Finally, the braking system is ventilated discs on the front wheels and solid discs on the rear.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the JAECOO 7

JAECOO 7 9

The mechanical range of the new JAECOO 7, at least for now, is limited to a single turbocharged petrol engine. It is a 1.6 T-GDI four-cylinder turbo block that offers 147 HP of power and 275 Nm of torque. For its management, the brand relies on a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends the engine's power to the ground through the front axle. Therefore, as we have indicated, there is no 5 with all-wheel drive.

Thanks to this engine, the performance of the 7 is more fair. The 4×2 traction version goes from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 10,8 seconds with a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour. The 7 4×4, on the other hand, due to its greater weight, reaches 100 kilometres per hour in 12 seconds with the same maximum speed. The weak point is that it emits between 169 and 182 grams of CO2 per kilometre, placing it in the middle range within the compact segment.

The second mechanical version available is a PHEV plug-in hybrid with 340 hp of power. To give it shape, the firm combines a 1.5 TGDI turbo gasoline engine with two electric motors (generator and propeller) that are powered by a battery with a capacity of 18,3 kWh and a maximum DC charge of 40 kW. The transmission is an automatic DHT type that manages the arrival of power to the ground through the front axle since it is 4×2.

In this version the approved average consumption is 1 litre per 100 kilometres and an electric range that reaches 90 kilometres. As a curiosity, the JAECOO 7 Exclusive includes the new ARDIS (All Road Drive Intelligent System) all-wheel drive system with four operating modes: Sand, Mud, Snow and TTThese four modes are added to the three (Normal, Eco and Sport) that the front-wheel drive 4×2 version has.

JAECOO 7 Equipment

JAECOO 7 7

The JAECOO 7 stands out as a practical and logical choice, especially for its interior. Unlike other Chinese models, this SUV offers high-quality finishes and pleasant-to-touch materials, comparable to those of its mainstream European competitors. This is reflected in the use of soft plastics in frequently touched areas, the design and fit of the seats, the upholstery used and the panoramic glass roof.

In Spain, The JAECOO 7 range is available in two trim levels: Select and Exclusive. Both can be combined with the two engine options, although the equipment varies significantly between the two. One of the main strengths of the model is its extensive standard equipment, who It includes elements that many of its rivals have to add as optional.

The Select trim includes heated and ventilated front seats, air conditioning, a 10,25-inch digital display, a digital instrument panel of the same size, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as Full-LED headlights. For its part, the level Exclusive adds features such as a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 360-degree panoramic view camera, voice assistant and a power panoramic sunroof.

When it comes to safety, the JAECOO 7 does not cut corners. Even at the basic level, it includes advanced driving aids such as adaptive cruise control with speed limiter, Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). The top trim level adds Blind Spot Detection, rain sensor and Smart Beam headlights, offering a complete active safety package.

The JAECOO 7 according to Euro NCAP

The JAECOO 7 has not yet been subjected to the Euro NCAP test although it is likely to achieve a 5 star rating like its cousin Omoda 5. In this case the individual rating is distributed as follows: 87% for adult passenger protection, 87% for child passenger protection, 68% for pedestrian vulnerability and 88% for driving assistant effectiveness. Thanks to this rating, the Chinese manufacturer is sold as one of the safest.

The JAECOO 7 of Km 0 and second hand

For now the 7 is the only model of the brand sold in our country. Month after month, sales are improving and the commercial network can generate a stock that helps to offer a more reasonable price to those customers who have a more limited budget. Despite this, if we take a look at the KM0 market we will see that From 7 there is a tight list of units throughout Spain. In this case, their prices start below 35 thousand euros…

If we take a look at the second-hand market, we see that the available units can almost be seen as KM0, since in the worst case they do not reach 10 thousand kilometers. In this case, they would be units second-hand or management cars with prices starting at 30 thousand euros figure that is in line with those of KM0. Therefore, we have to wait for the model to settle to find the "bargains" that everyone expects.
