Among European premium brands, Volvo is one of the most highly regarded companies. The Swedish brand has been a major driver of safety in mobility. It boasts several patents that have saved countless lives over decades, such as the seatbelt. Its model range is known for its elegance and understated style. Now, with the arrival of the Volvo EX90 , it will also be known for its efficiency and electrification.
For over 20 years, the Volvo XC90 has been the benchmark model in the Swedish automaker's SUV lineup. This impressive crossover has won over hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide. However, its age has prompted a fully electric generational shift to usher in a new era. The EX90 is that successor, taking the top spot in terms of quality, technology, and price.
Technical characteristics of the Volvo EX90
Volvo currently belongs to the Geely Group, one of China's largest automotive conglomerates. It owns several brands, including Polestar, Lotus, Smart, Zeekr, and Lynk & Co, among others. All of these brands share technologies and developments. The Volvo EX90 is based on Geely's SEA platform , the same one used in other models from the company, such as the Polestar 3 and the Lotus Eletre.
In terms of size, the EX90 can be defined as the largest model in the lineup and a member of the exclusive F-SUV segment. Externally, it measures 5,04 meters long, 1,96 meters wide, and 1,75 meters high . To these dimensions, we must add a curb weight of 2.818 kilograms and a wheelbase of 2,85 meters. Inside, it offers two possible configurations: one with five seats and another with seven.
In the three-row seating configuration (2+3+3), the third row folds down into the trunk, making it only comfortable for shorter passengers or children. The standard trunk capacity is 669 liters , expandable to 2.107 liters with the second row folded down, and reduced to 324 liters with the two additional seats up. The EX90 also features a second trunk in the front with a capacity of 46 liters.
Volvo EX90 mechanical range

Volvo has created the successor to the XC90 to usher in a new electric era. The EX90 offers no combustion engines, focusing entirely on battery power. The range comprises three different versions . The main differences between them lie in performance, the number of motors installed, and the official range achieved.
The launch lineup starts with the EX90 Single Motor, boasting 333 horsepower, 480 Nm of torque , and an 88 kWh net capacity battery that provides a WLTP -rated range of up to 572 kilometers . Immediately following is the EX90 Twin Motor. It features a dual-motor system that generates a maximum output of 449 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque . Thanks to a 102 kWh net capacity lithium-ion battery, it achieves a WLTP-rated range of 618 kilometers.
The top-of-the-range model is the EX90 Twin Motor Performance with its dual motors. It boasts a maximum power output of 680 horsepower and up to 870 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h (electronically limited). It uses the same 102 kWh net capacity lithium-ion battery, achieving a WLTP-rated range of 608 kilometers.
Volvo EX90 equipment

As a true European premium brand, Volvo delivers exceptional interior quality in the EX90. The large electric SUV boasts a beautifully presented cabin, both in terms of materials and technology, with the characteristic Swedish touch of refinement, elegance, and durability . All of this enhances the sense of quality and comfort experienced by customers.
In terms of trim levels, the EX90's equipment range focuses on the Core, Plus, and Ultra versions . The technological features across all three are very prominent and virtually identical, although the Ultra model offers notable differences in design and interior space. Inside, the second and third rows are replaced by a second bench seat with only two business-style seats (not available in Spain). Design discrepancies are also apparent.
In terms of equipment, the EX90 offers all the technology that the Geely Group is capable of incorporating , being the first of the company to offer interesting systems such as: Full LED headlights, air suspension, heated, electric seats with massage function, digital instrumentation, multimedia system with 14,5-inch touch screen, 360-degree camera, four-zone climate control by heat pump, connectivity for mobile devices and a complete safety program dominated by a powerful LiDAR radar.

The Volvo EX90 according to Euro NCAP
Like any self-respecting Swedish car, safety is one of its strongest points. In 2025, Euro NCAP tested the protection technology of the new EX90. Following the results, it was awarded 5 Euro NCAP stars, the highest rating at the time. The results by category were as follows: 92 out of 100 for adult occupant protection, 93 out of 100 for child occupant protection, 82 out of 100 for pedestrian vulnerability, and 86 out of 100 for ADAS systems.
Volvo EX90 rivals
Sooner or later, electrification will reach all segments, sizes, and categories of the international market. The electric vehicle market is growing rapidly, and much of the attention is focused on the higher segments. The Volvo EX90 stands out for its size, technology, and performance , but also for the caliber of its rivals. These include the Tesla Model X , Mercedes EQE SUV , Audi Q8 e-tron, and BMW iX , among others. All of them are similar in size and price.
