(with video)Test Volkswagen T-Cross 1.0 TSI 115 CV Sport (video)The first time that Volkswagen warned of the arrival of the T-Cross was at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. That year the Swiss show attended the launch of the prototype that advanced the forms of a small B-SUV. A concept car titled Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze that eventually would end up becoming a production model.
just two years later the Volkswagen T-Cross made an appearance in the markets, although already as a 2019 model. An update corresponding to the second half of its life cycle is introduced in the summer of 2023. Its mechanical range is slightly revised, as is the load of equipment and technology.
Technical characteristics Volkswagen T-Cross
Being the smallest SUV in the house, it uses the smallest platform in the Volkswagen Group. Under the bodywork of the Volkswagen T-Cross the MQB-A0 architecture is hidden. We can see this modular chassis in many other models of the German conglomerate, which in turn shares with other sister models that are also rivals, such as the SEAT Arona or Skoda Kamiq.
Outwardly, its measurements place it perfectly in its segment. A niche market focused mainly on urban mobility. It reaches 4,11 meters in length, 1,78 meters in width and 1,56 meters in height. To these external dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,56 meters. Battle more than enough so that you can homologate a cabin for a maximum of five passengers.
Regarding the cargo volume, The Volkswagen T-Cross formalizes a trunk with a minimum capacity of 385 liters. Since the second row of seats is longitudinally adjustable, that volume can grow to 455 liters if the bench seat is moved forward as far as possible. In the most optimal of cases, the maximum volume is reached when all the seats are folded down, offering 1.281 liters of capacity.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Volkswagen T-Cross
When it comes to mobilizing the T-Cross, Volkswagen has a range of medium-low power engines. As is customary in the industry, diesel engines are eliminated. That means that, while the electrified units land, only a mechanical range with petrol blocks is available. Two engines offering a total of three levels of performance.
Access variants show the same engine. It is a turbocharged three-cylinder block 1.0 TSI with 999 cubic centimeters. Offers two different power levels: 95 and 116 horsepower. Management is derived from a five- or six-speed manual gearbox. Optionally, only for the 1.0 hp 110 TSI version, a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission is available.
The top of the range in terms of performance comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood. The 1.5 TSI version with 1.498 cubic centimeters of displacement develops 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque between 1.500 and 3.500 revolutions. It is always associated with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Like the previous units, it sends all the power to the front axle, without the possibility of mounting an all-wheel drive system.

The Volkswagen T-Cross of Km 0 and second hand
The commercial start of the Volkswagen T-Cross is very recent in Spain. For this reason, the number of second-hand and zero-mile units available on the market is very low. As the commercial network receives more units, it will increase since the first sales rates are proving satisfactory. At the moment we can verify that its depreciation ratio is around 32 percent, the mean of its segment.
If we take a look at the occasion channel we see that the most affordable units are priced close to 13 or 15 thousand euros for 2019 models with more than 20.000 accumulated kilometers and access mechanics. The Km 0 market is more limited. Few units for sale, all of them new and with a starting price slightly lower than the list prices offered at the dealership. An alternative for those who do not want to wait.
