The commercial vehicle segment has not been a particular focus for Toyota , at least not in Europe, where it has historically avoided this type of vehicle—until now. Thanks to a close collaboration with the Stellantis Group, the Japanese automaker is entering a growing market: that of large MPVs derived from commercial vehicles. The Toyota Proace Verso is the name chosen for this model.
We have tested this car:
Test Toyota Proace Verso Family Medium 180D Auto 6vThe fact that it's called Verso tells us that this is the more family-oriented model, following the same philosophy established with the Toyota Proace City and Toyota Proace City Verso . All of these models stem from the alliance with the French conglomerate, with similar versions appearing in the Opel , Peugeot , and Citroën lineups . The Toyota models are the most recent to arrive, launching in 2016, with a minor update in 2019 that included the electric version.
Technical characteristics of the Toyota Proace Verso
Like the first generation of the Proace Verso, which did not reach Europe, the current model bases its mobility on a shared platform of the Stellantis Group. Under its body the EMP2 architecture is hidden, the same that we can see in other units of the wide range of models, such as the Citroën C5 Aircross, the Opel Grandland or the Peugeot 308. The offer consists of two possible bodies: Medium and Long .
At the entry level, we find the Proace Verso Medio , which measures 4,96 meters long, 1,92 meters wide, and 1,89 meters high . It also has a wheelbase of 3,27 meters. At the top of the range is the Proace Verso Largo , which measures 5,31 meters long, 1,92 meters wide, and 1,89 meters high . The increase in size is only noticeable in the rear overhang, while the wheelbase remains the same.
Designed for family use, the Proace Verso's cabin offers various configurations thanks to removable and folding seats, allowing you to manage the interior space as desired. The maximum passenger capacity is eight, distributed across three rows of seats. As for cargo capacity, the Toyota Proace Verso's volume varies depending on the seating configuration. It ranges from 1.556 to 1.950 liters with two rows of seats (Medium and Long, respectively).
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Toyota Proace Verso

Although Toyota is a brand heavily focused on sustainable mobility, its commercial vehicle versions don't offer a very wide range of electrified models. The Proace Verso comes in a range with three diesel versions and one electric version known as the Proace Verso Electric. In Spain, it qualifies for the DGT's ZERO emissions label, which is especially advantageous for versatile urban use.
In its entry-level version, the Proace Verso family starts with the 1.5D engine. This 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine delivers 120 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. In the more powerful 2.0D versions , the engine's displacement increases, featuring a turbocharged, four-cylinder diesel engine with 1.997 cubic centimeters. It offers two different power outputs: 144 horsepower in the base version, reaching a maximum of 177 horsepower.
The latest addition to the family is the all-electric version . It features a single motor mounted on the front axle, powered by a 75 kWh lithium-ion battery. In optimal conditions, it boasts an electric range of 330 kilometers . Charging is supported by high-power chargers, delivering up to 100 kW DC and up to 11 kW AC. At maximum capacity, it can recover from 0 to 80% charge in 48 minutes.
