Elon Musk, founder of Tesla, has had a very clear idea from the beginning. Its purpose is none other than to create a self-solvent electric car brand capable of revolutionizing the industry. No one can deny that the Californian giant has set the standard for a technology that has become the most immediate future of mobility. path that follows Tesla Model 3.
We have tested this car:
We tested the cheapest Tesla of all, the 3 HP Model 283 (with video)This is the fourth product that the manufacturer puts on sale, after the Roadster, the Tesla Model S as Tesla Model X. It is called to be the true revolution of the electric car. A compact saloon with a reasonable price and high autonomy. His presentation took place in the city of Hawthorne, California, on March 31, 2016. At the end of the summer of 2023, a second generation is launched on the market with notable changes compared to the predecessor model.
From its presentation to its commercialization it has suffered great problems. However, being classified as the first electric vehicle with a contained price has helped increase the firm's sales. As a curiosity, the initial commercial denomination of the Model 3 was going to be Model E, but the Ford Motor Company prohibited Tesla from using this name.
Technical characteristics of the Tesla Model 3
El Tesla Model 3 It is developed on a profound modification of the platform that gives life to the Model S and Model X. Thanks to this, it can incorporate the same technological level and battery coupling system as its older brothers. All this with a smaller size: 4,72 meters long, 1,93 meters wide and 1,44 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,87 meters.
Although we are talking about a very well developed and highly resistant platform, the main disadvantage it presents is its high weight, due to the boosters it has received, as well as the different battery packs. Still, the Model 3's final scale weight ranges from 1.765 kilograms for a single-engine version to 1.828 kilograms for a twin-engine version.
The use of space offered by Tesla throughout the range, allows you to enjoy a generous interior space. The Model 3 has two trunks, a front one with 88 liters and a rear one with 425 liters. A very practical feature that allows it to offer one of the largest load capacities in the segment.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Tesla Model 3
The Tesla Model 3 is a 100% electric vehicle. Its range is short but balanced in terms of performance and autonomy. There are only three possible versions, one with a single engine and two with dual engines., one on each axis. In all cases, management is derived from an automatic gearbox, which sends all the power to the rear axle or to all four wheels if we are talking about a model with one or two motors, respectively.
In addition to the mechanical variation, we have two possible batteries: 60 and 75 kWh capacity. The first is always associated with the single-engine entry variant (RWD). It develops 283 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque with a 100% electric autonomy of up to 513 kilometers homologated according to the WLTP certification. This same engine can be combined with the largest battery of all to offer the maximum possible range in the Model 3 RWD Long Range, 702 kilometers with an approved average consumption of 12,5 kWh per 100 kilometres travelled.
El Model 3 Long Range All-Wheel Drive It offers a maximum power output of 498 horsepower with a torque of 510 Nm. Officialize a maximum autonomy in WLTP cycle of up to 629 kilometers. The last member of the family is Model 3 Performance with 627 horsepower and an approved autonomy of 528 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
Equipment of the Tesla Model 3
As usual in the house, Tesla offers almost all possible equipment in all mechanical versions, there being no differences between them. Among the main elements that will be included in the standard equipment of the electric sedan are: keyless access and start, panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, connectivity for smartphones, 15-inch central touch screen, bi-zone climate control, Wi-Fi network for passengers and an 8-inch infotainment screen for the rear seats.
Optionally, the Model 3 offers different shades for the bodywork with prices between 1.300 and 2.000 euros. Sets of wheels up to 19 inches and two interior upholstery colors, plus a trailer hitch. Additionally, the degree of driving assistants can be improved with the famous autonomous driving package (7.500 euros), which is actually a level 2 assistance that does not exempt the driver from the responsibility of driving.

The Tesla Model 3 according to Euro NCAP
When analyzing the safety of the American compact sedan, Euro NCAP put it to the test as usual. In this case the evaluating body decreed a five-star rating. Its scores were outstanding in sections such as protection of adult passengers, 96 out of 10, protection of child passengers, 86 out of 100, and operation of safety assistants, 94 out of 100. The lowest score was obtained in pedestrian protection, with a grade of 74 out of 100. These ratings correspond to the model before 2023.
The Tesla Model 3 of Km 0 and second hand
Given the long waiting time to get a new Tesla Model 3, and the high cost of some brand new units, many customers opt for secondary sales channels. However, we observe that prices remain high as it is a highly desired car. The Model 3 has a lower depreciation percentage than the rest of its rivals.
The offer available in the second-hand channel is quite limited. The few units that exist have an approximate starting price of around 45.000 euros. That is, they hardly represent a big difference with models ordered from the factory. The Km 0 road is non-existent. Dealers in Spain do not accumulate stock, and all orders must be made to the factory with the usual waiting time.
Rivals of the Tesla Model 3
Like all Tesla models, the Model 3 has become a benchmark in its segment. When it was launched on the market in 2016, it did not have many rivals in its category. To this day, he still does not add a considerable cast of opponents, but some models have appeared on the scene that can be considered similar: Nissan LEAF, Volkswagen ID.3, Hyundai Ioniq o Renault ZOE. We can also add others from different segments such as Audi e-tron, skoda enyaq, Ford Mustang Match-E, bmw ix3 or Volkswagen ID.4. Many more will be added in the future.
