Smart is one of the best-known and most beloved brands in Europe. They became famous thanks to their small cars, but today the company has a very different present. With the classic Smart Fortwo and Smart Fourfour discontinued, the brand has its base of operations in China, although it continues to have the backing of Mercedes. The Smart #5 is the result of this collaboration between countries. It's the largest model the brand has ever produced.
It's true that this isn't the first time we've said something like this. The Smart #5 is a clear demonstration of the company's new direction. It's their largest model, surpassing the previous Smart #1 and Smart #3 . It was originally launched in early 2025, although the first registrations didn't take place until the summer season. Despite its German heritage, the Smart #5 is manufactured in China, although its design is the work of Europeans.
Technical characteristics of the Smart #5
As we've already mentioned, the Geely Group is responsible for providing much of the technology and components for the #5. This means that beneath the muscular, German-designed body lies the Chinese conglomerate's SEA platform , the same one used by models from brands like Volvo, Polestar, and Zeekr—all part of the Geely Group. It's a platform designed to accommodate various types of powertrains, although in the case of the #5, only fully electric systems are offered.
Based on its dimensions, the largest Smart ever made falls into the D-SUV segment. It measures 4,69 meters long, 1,92 meters wide (excluding mirrors), and 1,70 meters high . The wheelbase is 2.90 meters. Added to these figures is a curb weight that varies between 2.200 and 2.378 kilograms. This significant weight is due to the enormous batteries that power it.
Thanks to its long wheelbase, the space available in the second row of seats is exceptionally good. There's plenty of legroom and headroom, with a completely flat floor that makes it easy for three adults to travel comfortably. As for cargo capacity, the Smart #5 boasts a minimum trunk volume of 630 liters for all versions . To that figure, you must add an additional 72 or 47 liters of front trunk space, depending on the engine option selected.
Mechanical range and Smart #5 gearboxes

Smart left its combustion engine past behind long ago. Electrification has been part of the brand's DNA for years. Despite the constant rumors that surfaced during its development, the Smart #5 relies exclusively on long-range electric systems . As is now typical for the brand, the range is tiered into different performance levels, something unusual considering it's manufactured in China.
The range starts with the #5 Pro, equipped with a 74,4 kWh net capacity LFP battery, producing 340 horsepower and boasting an official range of 465 kilometers. It's the only model to use this battery. Next are the Pro+ and Premium versions, which switch to a 94 kWh real capacity NCM battery , the same one used in the other models. Power increases to 363 horsepower, boosting the official range to 590 kilometers in both cases—the best figure in the entire lineup.
From here, we move on to the versions with two electric motors, one for each axle. The Pulse and Summit models boast 587 horsepower and 643 Nm of torque. Their 94 kWh NCM battery allows them to achieve a homologated range of 540 kilometers. Finally, we reach the ever-present #5 Brabus version, which becomes the most powerful Smart ever with 646 horsepower . With the 94 kWh battery, its homologated range is 540 kilometers. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3,8 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h.
Smart #5 Equipment

Given its German origins, Smart has always positioned itself as a premium brand, though it hasn't always lived up to that label. However, the Smart #5 can truly be recognized as a premium car . Inside, the quality of its materials and its high level of craftsmanship are striking. Its finish puts it on par with any other model produced in Germany.
In terms of equipment, the range is divided into the six usual Smart trim levels. From least to most equipped, these are: Pro, Pro+, Premium, Pulse, Summit Edition, and Brabus . The main differences between them, besides performance, lie in the underlying technology and the finishes. The Summit and Brabus versions feature specific design details that enhance the car's rugged or sporty character, respectively.
Standard equipment includes features such as digital instrumentation, full LED headlights, keyless entry and start, a central touchscreen for the multimedia system, and a comprehensive suite of safety and driver assistance systems. Starting with the Premium trim level, a third 13-inch touchscreen, located in front of the passenger seat, is also standard . In addition, there are numerous other comfort features such as heated and power-adjustable seats, a head-up display, and much more. In terms of equipment, nothing is lacking.
