The Renault Master is the largest commercial vehicle sold by the French automaker. It is currently in its third generation, which was launched in 2010.

The first generation of the Master arrived on the market in 1980 and remained on sale, with several changes and versions, until 1997. Interestingly, Renault marketed the 50 Series version based on the Dodge 50 Series.

The second generation, which arrived on the market in 1997 , was developed together with Nissan , Opel and Vauxhall, which is why its sisters Interstar and Movano were born.

Technical characteristics Renault Master

The Renault Master is available with different body lengths and passenger compartments. Depending on the body style, we can distinguish: 3 different heights, 4 lengths , a panel van version, an extended cab, a cab-floor version, or passenger versions (Combi and Bus).

The H1 cab versions have an exterior height of 2,31 meters ; the H2 measures 2,50 meters, and finally, the H3 is 2,81 meters tall. Meanwhile, the L1 (short) body variants are exactly 5,03 meters long, the L2 and L3 medium bodies reach 5,54 meters and 6,19 meters respectively, while the L4 long body reaches 6,68 meters.

The Master's maximum payload ranges from 2.800 kg in the L1H1 version to 4.500 kg in the L4H3 rear-wheel-drive version. The wheelbase ranges from 3,18 meters in the L1 version to 4,33 meters in the L4 body style.

In the case of the Combi and Bus versions , the cabin is approved to accommodate from 2 to 17 occupants.

Mechanical range and Renault Master gearboxes

The Renault Master 's engine range consists of a diesel unit from the dCi Energy family . It features a 2.3-liter displacement, four cylinders, and a turbocharger (twin-turbocharged in the more powerful versions), offering performance in several power outputs: 110, 130, 145, 165, and 170 hp.

As standard, all five versions send power to the rear axle . However, all-wheel drive with a mechanical differential lock is available as an option. The standard gearbox is a 5- or 6-speed manual; an automatic transmission is not offered, even as an option.

Equipment Renault Master

For the Renault Master , the available equipment options in the Spanish market are grouped according to the body type. There are Panel Van , Combi , and Chassis Cab versions , which are in turn available with different lengths and load capacities.

Even the base model Master includes features like traction and stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The main drawback is that cruise control , air conditioning, and a passenger airbag are optional extras.

Moving up the range to the Combi and Bus passenger versions , the equipment is more comprehensive. In this case, the Master will include a rearview camera in the side mirror, an infotainment system with a touchscreen and integrated navigation, Bluetooth connectivity with auxiliary USB ports, and a greater number of airbags.

Renault Master and its rivals

The Renault Master 's main rivals are its siblings, the Opel Movano and Nissan NV400 . Alongside them are the Citroën Jumper , Peugeot Boxer , Mercedes-Benz Sprinter , Fiat Ducato , and Volkswagen Crafter.

To differentiate itself from its rivals, the Master offers a reliable and durable range of engines and multiple body styles. However, the French commercial vehicle cannot compete with its rivals in terms of modernity , build quality, or safety equipment options.

The Renault Master of Km0 and second hand

The Renault Master is one of the most popular large commercial and passenger vehicles in Spain. For this reason, there is a generous number of units available on the nearly new (low mileage) or used (second-hand) market. The average depreciation is a modest 37,5 percent.

If we are interested in acquiring a used unit , we can access a second-generation Master Combi (2010 model) with an average of 82 kilometers, valued at 15.400 euros . It has a 2.5-liter diesel engine with 120 hp, a 5-speed manual gearbox, and seating for 9 passengers (including accessibility features for people with reduced mobility).

If you're looking for a nearly new or demonstrator Master van , we found 2018 models (third generation) for €2.3. The body style is a chassis cab with an open bed, equipped with a 23-liter dCi 110 hp diesel engine , a 6-speed manual transmission, and the T L2 3500 trim level.
