El OMODA 5 It is the first model launched on the market by Chery Auto subsidiary. It is a C-segment SUV that puts forward some really powerful sales arguments. A few years ago it was thought that Chinese models could not be bought with European ones but the 5 shows that that is no longer the case. You only have to look at the qualities with which those responsible for the brand have imbued this model, such as a very attractive design or great quality.
We have tested this car:
VIDEO | Omoda 5: another future Chinese bestseller? The arrival on the market of the 5 has caused quite a stir for several reasons. Not only is this a product with which the brand will conquer customers, but Chery Auto wants to go further. It will be the first Chinese model to be manufactured in Europe in large print runs thanks to the fact that they have kept the factory that Nissan had in our country. In this way, they want to ensure high quality standards as well as efficient service.
However, OMODA does not come to Spain to sell its cars for price. It is not the new Chinese Dacia but The brand wants to stand out for offering an excellent quality-price-product ratio. To achieve this, they have not only launched a model but will soon expand their range with more options. To this we must add that they already have a logistics center in Guadalajara at their service and that the 7-year car warranty, surpasses its rivals.
Technical characteristics of the OMODA 5
The OMODA 5 is built on Chery Auto's T1X platform. This base is shared with models that the Asian firm sells in other markets and that we do not know in Europe. For example, we have the Chery Tiggo 5X, Chery Tiggo 7, Exeed LX or its cousin, which will also be sold in Spain, JAECOO 7. Thanks to this platform, its external size is 4,4 meters long, 1,83 meters wide. and 1,58 meters high with 2,63 meters of battle.
In terms of load capacity, it has a Minimum trunk volume of 360 liters that reaches up to 1.075 liters if we fold down the backrests of the rear seats. However, one of the "buts" that can be put to this model is that There are no 4x4 all-wheel drive versions. Well, they are all traction to the 4×2 front axle. Of course, it has generous off-road dimensions with an attack angle of 19,8 degrees and a departure angle of 22,8 degrees.
In another order of things, the OMODA 5 includes an electric rack steering that can be stiffened depending on the chosen driving mode. For their part, the suspensions are of type McPherson in front and deformable parallelogram type with springs and passive front and rear stabilizers. Lastly is the braking system, which is made of discs on both axles with ventilation on the front pair and solid brakes on the rear axles.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the OMODA 5
The mechanical range of the new OMODA 5, at least for now, is limited to a single turbocharged gasoline engine. It is a 1.6 TGDI four-cylinder turbocharged block that offers 147 hp of power and 275 Nm of torque. For its management, the brand relies on a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends the engine's power to the ground through the front axle. Therefore, as we have indicated, there is no 5 with all-wheel drive.
Thanks to this engine, the performance of the 5 is more than correct with a speed from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour of 7,8 seconds with a maximum speed of 195 kilometers per hour. The weak point, perhaps most important, is that its WLTP approved consumption is 7 liters per 100 kilometers with 159 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The information is simply correct because in real use it is difficult to get it below the figure of 9 or 9,5 liters.
There is also a electric version called 5 EV which moves thanks to an electric motor 150 kW (204 hp) and 340 Nm of torque. To power itself it uses a LFP type battery of 61 kWh of energy capacity that provides it with an estimated autonomy of 430 kilometers. The charging power in AC is 11 kW and in DC it reaches up to 80 kW, announcing fair performance: 172 kilometers per hour maximum and 7,6 seconds to 100 km/h.
OMODA 5 equipment
The main argument where the OMODA 5 makes clear its status as a logical car is found in its interior. Unlike other Chinese models shows off higher quality finishes and better-touch materials that they are on par with their European generalist rivals. This can be seen in the use of softer plastics in areas that are exposed to touch, the design, fit and cushioning of its seats with the used upholstery or the glass roof.
All in all, the 5's range of equipment for Spain is structured around two finishes. From lowest to highest level of equipment are the Comfort and Premium. Each one is combined with the same engine but the equipment does vary, increasing even more in the case of the Premium. However, one of Chery's great commercial assets is the standard equipment, which is why the 5 offers elements from the entry version that are options on its rivals.
Thus the Comfort level includes heated and ventilated front seats, air conditioning, 10,25-inch LCD digital screen, 10,25-inch digital cockpit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity or Full-LED headlights. For its part, the Premium finish adds elements such as a heated steering wheel, two-zone automatic climate control, 360-degree view camera with panoramic view, voice assistant or electric panoramic sunroof.
Where OMODA has not skimped is on safety because from the lowest level 5 it can include all the most well-known driving aids. Thus, it includes adaptive cruise control with speed limiter, integrated cruise assist (ICA), rear cross traffic alert (RCTA) or lane departure warning (LDW). The more it adds blind spot detection with rain sensor and Smart Beam headlights.

The OMODA 5 from Km 0 and second hand
For now the 5 is the only model of the brand sold in our country. Little by little it improves its sales and this allows the commercial network to generate stock that helps offer a tighter price to those customers who have a more limited budget. So, if we take a look at the KM0 market we will see that of 5 there is a large list of units throughout Spain. In this case, their prices start below 25 thousand euros…
If we take a look at the used and second-hand market we see that the available units can almost be seen as KM0 because in the worst case they have just over 16 thousand kilometers. In this case it would be units semi-new or management with prices starting at 25.990 euros figure that is in line with those of KM0. Therefore, we have to wait for the model to settle to find the "bargains" that everyone expects.
