El Nissan Leaf debuted in 2010 as one of the great pioneers of the electric mobility, quickly becoming a global success. Its combination of a relatively affordable price and sufficient range made it a model ahead of its time, paving the way for many subsequent electric models. During its first generation, in production until 2017, its batteries were progressively improved, establishing itself as a market leader. It was even sold under different names, such as the Venucia e30 in China, and in 2022 received a minor aesthetic and equipment update.

It features a technologically advanced interior, connected services, ProPilot assisted driving, and two-way power (V2L) functions. Technical characteristics of the Nissan LEAF
The new Nissan Leaf is a completely new model developed on the same platform as its cousin, the Renault MeganeBut to differentiate itself from the rest, it features distinctive dimensions and key features. It measures 4.35 meters long, 1.81 meters wide, and 1.55 meters high. Its wheelbase measures 2.69 meters, allowing for a generous interior. Finally, the trunk, with a capacity of 437 liters, is midway between models in the compact segment.
The chassis prioritizes comfort and stability: well-established paths, superior sound insulation compared to the previous generation, and steering settings that avoid the artificial feel of some electric power steering systems. The regenerative electric braking management is supported by the e-Pedal (not a complete "one-pedal"), with several levels of retention and intelligent adjustment that increases energy recovery at traffic lights or intersections, reducing the use of the mechanical brake.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Nissan LEAF
The third generation of the Leaf is built on a updated Alliance electric platform, with liquid-cooled lithium-ion batteries, improved thermal management, and new-generation power electronics. It offers two battery sizes:
- 52 kWh (standard): intended for daily use and frequent intercity travel.
- 75 kWh (extended range): aimed at those who regularly travel on the highway.
Both versions are front-wheel drive.The 52 kWh one has a 130 kW (177 HP) and 345 Nm engine; the 75 kWh one reaches 160 kW (218 hp) and 355 NmThe WLTP range reaches "445 kilometers" with a 52 kWh battery and "up to 622 km" with a 75 kWh battery, a figure that allows for long journeys with only one stop in between. Optimized aerodynamics and a certified reference fuel consumption of 13,8 kWh/100 km (brand data) help sustain these figures.
In charging, it incorporates: 11 kW three-phase AC (internal charger with bidirectional capacity depending on the market) and DC fast charging up to 110 kW (52 kWh battery) or up to 150 kW (75 kWh battery)Under optimal conditions, the brand claims it can recover from 20% to 80% of its battery in about 30 minutes (75 kWh) and can perform full home recharges overnight. In Europe, the fast connector is CCS2; in North America, it uses NACS and can access the Supercharger network without an adapter.
Nissan LEAF Equipment
The range in Spain is structured into the Engage, Engage+, Advance, and Evolve trim levels (names may vary by country). Broadly speaking:
- Engage: 18” wheels, LED headlights, dual screen (instrumentation and infotainment), Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 360º camera, ProPILOT with Navi-Link, smart key, bidirectional 11 kW AC charging, and (depending on version) heat pump.
- Engage+: adds headlights with anti-glare high beam assist, electric folding mirrors, a 14,3” central dashboard and screen, and a wireless smartphone charger.
- Advance: adds an illuminated front logo, 3D LED taillights, an electrochromic panoramic roof, roof rails, a head-up display, heated seats and steering wheel, a power tailgate, and a V2L. A heat pump is also included with the 52 kWh battery.
- Evolve: 19” wheels, electric front seats (with driver’s memory), synthetic leather upholstery and Bose sound system.
In terms of connectivity, the Leaf integrates Google (Maps, Assistant, and Play) with over-the-air updates and remote services from the NissanConnect Services app: charging and climate control scheduling, vehicle status, notifications, and even home automation functions through the Google Assistant. In terms of driving assistance, the Nissan Safety Shield 360 and ProPILOT suite with lane guidance and adaptive cruise control enhance safety and comfort on long journeys.

The new Nissan Leaf has not yet been subjected to the impact tests carried out by the European autonomous body. Euro NCAP.
