If there is an acronym that commands respect in the motor industry, it is the acronym GT-R. The Nissan GT-R It is a model famous for its history and for its performance. Although today it is considered one of the wildest sports cars on the market, its performance is the result of a natural evolution over the years. To know its foundations you have to go back to 1957.
Following the end of World War II, Japan is slowly recovering from the deep wounds it sustained. The automotive industry is positioned as a clear growth sector. The big manufacturers begin to produce increasingly passionate models, and that is where the figure of the Nissan Skyline. That model planted the seed of a mythical saga. We will not know the acronym GT-R until the end of the 60s, being used to name the most extreme versions of the Skyline.
Over the years the GT-R models gained fame, performance and popularity, reaching the pinnacle in the Skyline GT-R R34. Finally, in 2007, Nissan divided the Skyline and GT-R families, presenting the world with the first Nissan GT-R.. A high-performance sports car at an affordable price that was capable of beating and surpassing superior models of the time such as Porsche or Ferrari. Today that edition is still valid, although with successive changes over the years, the last one in 2016.
Technical characteristics of the Nissan GT-R
At the time of developing the GT-R, Nissan engineers had at their disposal the latest technologies of the house and the Japanese conglomerate. Although it is not believed, under the spectacular bodywork of the Nissan GT-R a platform derived from the Infiniti G35 and G37 models is hidden. Is platform, called Nissan Premium Midship, undergoes major structural changes in order to be able to withstand the very high levels of performance of the supercar.
The GT-R is presented in a format of considerable proportions, standing as the largest sports car of the house above the Nissan 370Z. Outwardly it reaches 4,71 meters long, 1,89 meters wide and 1,37 meters high. To these levels we must add a wheelbase of 2,78 meters, a battle that translates into an approved passenger compartment for a maximum of four passengers in a classic 2 + 2 distribution.
Despite this considerable size, the weight distribution causes the passenger compartment to be located between the axles, limiting the rear space to seats mainly designed for children, since adults will hardly enjoy legroom. Regarding load capacity, the Nissan GT-R offers a trunk with 315 liters. To that amount we must add a total weight of up to 1.827 kilograms.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Nissan GT-R
Although the body of the GT-R transmits sportiness on all four sides, its great success lies in the powertrain. A block taken to the extreme that at the time made the Japanese sports car one of the fastest cars from 0 to 100 km/h. To this day it is still one of the references. The range is made up of a single unit that over the years has been gaining performance.
When the Nissan GT-R hit the market in 2007, it advertised a power output of 480 horsepower. Today that same engine is capable of offering superior data. It is an aluminum block, turbocharged with six cylinders in vee and 3.799 cubic centimeters of displacement. It develops 570 horsepower at 6.800 revolutions and a maximum torque of 637 Nm. between 3.300 and 5.800 laps.
In its most extreme version, the Nissan GT-R NISMO, that same block was capable of reaching 600 horsepower. Power management is derived from a dual-clutch automatic transmission that distributes all of the engine's power to all four wheels. Its benefits leave clear evidence of its capabilities: from 0 to 100 km/h in 2,8 seconds and top speed of 315 km/h.
Equipment of the Nissan GT-R
With the launch of the GT-R, Nissan wanted to duel with the big models on the market. A segment of supercars whose prices doubled those of the Japanese model. Although for benefits it was able to stand up, the quality of its interior was not at the same level. That problem was corrected over the years and generations. The post-2016 model introduces significant improvements in that regard.
From doors to inside it is very sporty and technological, with systems and information more typical of the world of video games. As is typical for Nissan, the equipment range is divided into several units or steps. From smallest to largest endowment we find: Prestige, Black Edition and Track Edition. This latest unit not only adds more technologies, but also improved mechanical systems that, although they do not increase power, do improve dynamic capabilities.
Regarding the equipment offered by the Nissan GT-R it is worth noting a certain obsolescence with respect to newer models. Despite this, we can mention interesting elements such as: LED headlights, competition tires, BOSE sound system, rear parking camera, electric sports seats, multimedia system with 8-inch touch screen, navigator, on-board telemetry and few assistants to driving or security elements.

The Nissan GT-R of Km 0 and second hand
Presented as a reasonably priced supercar at its launch, which it really was, it achieved considerable commercial success (by industry figures). For less than 100 thousand euros you could have a car capable of standing up to models of more than 300 thousand. That encouraged sales and his fame. Today, alternative sales channels do not offer many options, but in the available ones it is observed a depreciation value of 28%, an average figure in the segment.
Leaving aside a non-existent Km 0 market, dealers do not accumulate stock due to the low demand for the product, the used or second-hand channel is the only one where alternatives to new models are offered. If we take a look we discover that the cheapest units correspond to models prior to the restyling of 2016. Prices start from figures close to 60.000 euros for models with less than 80.000 kilometers. The most expensive unit is the GT-R NISMO from 2018, which can reach prices of up to 178 thousand euros.
Rivals of the Nissan GT-R
When we talk about rivals of the Nissan GT-R we mention some of the most expensive and exclusive models in the world. Models that derive from mythical firms such as Porsche, Ferrari or Aston Martin. The Japanese stands up to them in performance, being able to beat most of them in one lap of any circuit. The most direct rivals of the GT-R, for benefits are: Aston Martin DB11, Porsche Turbo 911, BMW M8Lamborghini Huracan, Mercedes AMG-GT, Maserati Gran Turismo, McLaren 600LT y McLaren 570S.

Nissan GT-R prices
Keep in mind that features similar to those of a GT-R would cost more than double in more exclusive firms. Nissan has always wanted to conquer that mass of customers with humbler budgets, although over the years the price has grown as the benefits did. The starting price of the Nissan GT-R is 117.200 euros, without offers or promotions. This value corresponds to a model with a Prestige finish. The most expensive of all, after the disappearance of the NISMO of 231.700 euros, is the GT-R Track Edition with a starting price of 133.900 euros, without offers or promotions.
