El Nissan Qashqai It is considered the first successful large commercial SUV. Although before him there were several attempts to explore the terrain, the Japanese model hit the nail on the head in design, size and price. After its success, the rest of the manufacturers rushed headlong to conquer the segment, although not all of them have managed to get close to the sales of the Nissan, none in fact.

Today the SUV segment dominates the global automobile scene. There are them in all formats, sizes and segments, but the first has always been the Qashqai. The first time we saw it was in 2007, although previously, three years before, a concept car had been presented that anticipated the line of the future production model. That first generation was developed from scratch by Nissan's European development center.

In 2014 the second of the editions arrived with important changes in all senses, quality, technology, bodywork and also design. It outsold the first generation, and for the next seven years it has hardly changed. In early 2021 Nissan officially presents the third edition of the best-selling SUV with the intention of following the path of success. In mid-2024 it undergoes a profound update, mainly focused on a major aesthetic change and small technological innovations.

Technical characteristics of the Nissan Qashqai

Prices of the new Qashqai

The new Nissan Qashqai is completely brand new. It does not share a single component with its predecessor. Neither engines, nor technology, nor chassis. Under the modern bodywork of the Japanese C-SUV, the CMF-C platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance is installed. It is the first model to use it in Europe, and later it will be used in other products such as the Renault Kadjar.

This newly created architecture has been developed to include new, more efficient mechanics to reduce weight and improve performance. It has also been designed with the aim of offering measures according to the segment with the intention of maximizing interior space and habitability. Its measures are: 4,42 meters long, 1,84 meters wide and 1,63 meters high with a wheelbase of 2,67 meters.

Such figures leave us with an optimal interior size for five passengers, where three of them are located in a row well presented in space for legs and head, although more limited in the distance between shoulders. The trunk grows in the latest edition to 504 liters of minimum capacity, reducing the quantity to 479 liters for the MHEV versions with an all-wheel drive system.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Nissan Qashqai

At the moment the mechanical range of the Nissan Qashqai is short due to the recent launch of the product. The Japanese have long since announced the end of the use of diesel engines, so the entire mechanical range of the SUV will revolve around gasoline versions with different degrees of electrification. being like this the portfolio includes MHEV, EV versions and also a 100% electric unit that will arrive later.

The main bulk is made up of the same gasoline engine. It is a turbocharged block of four cylinders in line with 1.332 cubic centimeters that is capable of developing various levels of performance. 140 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque in the first step, and 158 horsepower with 260 Nm of torque in the next. It is always accompanied by a 12-volt Mild-Hybrid system with which it certifies the DGT ECO label.

The most performant of the family, at least at its launch, is the Nissan Qashqai e-POWER, the hybrid unit. It uses a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that is coupled to a lithium-ion battery and a front electric motor. The maximum power of the set is 190 horsepower. Management is derived from six-speed manual gearboxes, or continuous variator-type automatic transmissions (standard on the hybrid). The power is always derived to the front axle.

Equipment of the Nissan Qashqai

One of the most notable changes in the third generation of the Nissan Qashqai focuses on its interior. An increase in the quality of the materials used gives a better sense of quality perceived by the occupants. A design that in general terms can be dismissed as conventional but that offers the driver excellent ergonomics and a pleasant feeling of comfort.

As is usual in the house, the Qashqai sports a range of equipment segmented into several levels. Although they are not yet confirmed, the usual ones are expected Acenta, N-Connecta, N-Design, Tekna and Tekna Premium finishes, as well as other special version finishes. It is expected that in each of them there will be a jump in content and quality, in addition to slight changes that affect the general aesthetics of the car.

As far as equipment is concerned, the Nissan Qashqai is positioned once again as the reference model of the Japanese brand. It uses the latest advances of the group, which include: Full LED matrix headlights, digital instrument panel with 12,3-inch screen, Head-Up Display, multimedia system with 9-inch touch screen, connectivity for mobile devices and browser, camera parking, dual-zone air conditioning and a complete team of driving assistants and security elements.

The Nissan Qashqai according to Euro NCAP

It is clear that with each new generation the Japanese SUV has been improving its safety. After crash tests of the latest generation, Euro NCAP has determined the five safety stars, the highest possible valuation. The results by sections have been: 91 out of 100 in protection of adult passengers, 91 out of 100 in protection of child passengers, 70 out of 100 in vulnerability of pedestrians, and 95 out of 100 in performance of safety assistants. These assessments remain valid after the 2024 update as there are no changes in the technology or the car platform.

The Nissan Qashqai of Km 0 and second hand

To speak of the Nissan Qashqai is to speak of one of the best-selling models in Spain and Europe. This implies a great diversity of units available in secondary sales channels. Thousands of models for sale with a wide range of mechanical versions, bodies and equipment. Because of it the depreciation of the model is higher than the average for the segment, standing at 33,5%. More supply implies a drop in sales prices.

If we take a look at the second-hand or second-hand market, we see that the cheapest units date from the first generation (year 2007). Then we can find starting prices around 3.500 euros for units with more than 200 thousand kilometers accumulated. Despite the launch of a new generation, the Km 0 market still shows a large number of units for sale, most of them with interesting discounts compared to new models.

Rivals of the Nissan Qashqai

Prices of the new Qashqai

Not everyone can say that they started a market. The Qashqai is the great instigator of the C-SUV segment. In less than two decades it has gone from being a residual niche to the most popular and successful on the market.. All brands offer at least one model in the category, and that leaves us with the rivals of the Japanese numbering in the dozens. Some to highlight are: Hyundai Tucson, KIA Sportage, SEAT Ateca, Skoda Karoq, Citroen C5 Aircross, Opel Grandland, Peugeot 3008, and many more. All of them are natural enemies due to size, equipment and price, with the Nissan being a clear reference and the model to beat for the rest.
