The segment of representative sedans is the most exclusive, most expensive and most limited segment of the market. Each manufacturer saves its best weapons to equip them on their respective models, as is the case with the Lexus LS. The Japanese brand has always had a very focused approach to luxury and exclusivity, and hence the LS (Luxury Sedan) is one of its first models.

Today the LS reaches its seventh generation. The first of them was launched on the market in 1989. It did so under the name of Toyota Celsior, since we must not forget that Lexus is the giant's luxury division. Toyota. The last of its versions landed at the end of 2017 with the intention of continuing to be the most common alternative to the classic German representation sedans. Subsequently, in 2020 a slight facelift is introduced.

Technical characteristics Lexus LS

In its quest to promote efficient mobility, the Lexus LS is only marketed with hybrid mechanics, at least in the old continent. That has meant a change with respect to the previous generation, where we did see other motor schemes. In turn, it has meant that the brand's engineers have developed a completely new platform in order to shelter these more efficient mechanics. Called GAL (Global Architecture Luxury)

Thanks to her, the Lexus LS has some discreet measures. 5,23 meters long, 1,9 meters wide and 1,45 meters high. Unlike previous generations, the new LS does not have several possible bodies, one long and one short. For the seventh edition, it has been decided to show only the longest version of all because it has usually always been the most chosen.

Something similar happens with the configuration of the seats. We have two possible options, on the one hand a cabin with capacity for five passengers and another more exclusive option that limits places to only four. This last option comes as standard in the highest finishes, those that are dedicated to the highest spheres. Although its trunk capacity is not particularly noteworthy, comment that it remains in a fair 400 liters.

Lexus LS mechanical range and gearboxes

No 100% thermal versions. With this band of efficiency, the newest Lexus LS was introduced to the market. That leaves us with, at least in our market, only having a fully hybrid range focused on a single engine. The only possibility lies in the traction, being able to choose rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Not even the change is customizable, and it always mounts an automatic CVT of the continuous variator type typical of Lexus.

So the LS 500h is the only possible option. It is a hybrid set that mixes a 6-liter gasoline V3,5 that develops 300 horsepower on its own. An electric motor is attached to it that adds another 179 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. in such a way the maximum power of the system is fixed at 359 horsepower, with an approved average consumption of only 7,6 liters per 100 kilometers travelled.

The battery provides the added value of comfort. Thanks to a lithium ion battery the Lexus LS 500h is capable of moving 100% electrically for a distance of approximately two kilometers. Thanks to this, the DGT certifies the largest of the Lexus with the ECO label, which entails certain advantages.

Equipment of the Lexus LS

If the Lexus LS has always stood out for something, it is for offering the most of the most in terms of equipment. For sale we find different trim levels: Business, F SPORT, Executive and Luxury. As standard it is a very well equipped car, as one would expect. It has elements such as Multi-LED headlights, 19-inch wheels, leather upholstery, Lexus Safety System +, a navigator and a 12-speaker Pionner sound system.

But given the Lexus LS's target audience, it's entirely possible that most buyers will opt for the more luxurious levels. in them replaces the rear bench with a row with two first class seats. To this we must add many elements focused on turning the LS into a mobile office in which its wealthy users can enjoy niceties such as: television, personal air conditioning, massage and reclining seats, WiFi, and a Mark Levinson sound system of up to 23 speakers. All this so that each displacement becomes a luxury trip.

The Lexus LS in the Km 0 and Second Hand channel

Since the market in which the Lexus LS is included is so specific and exclusive, there are few units that we currently find for sale in the second-hand or occasion channel. The offer starts below 6.000 for first generation models. The most common is to find corresponding models from the fourth generation onwards.

As expected, the most expensive units correspond to the latest generation models, from 2018 onwards. Lexus is a brand that does not usually accumulate units in stock and less in this category. This causes there are no models for sale with zero kilometers on its odometer, but with low mileage charge for the latest generation units. In the best of cases, prices start at 75.000 euros.

Rivals of the Lexus LS

There are few representative sedans on the market. And within them you have to segment between luxury brands such as Bentley y Rolls-Royce, and more popular and generalist premium brands. Taking this into account, the Lexus LS is included in the second group, where it has to face rivals with powerful names such as the Audi A8’s most emblematic landmarks, the BMW Serie 7’s most emblematic landmarks, the Maserati Quattroporte and the most excellent Mercedes S-Class. They all make up a very limited and exclusive market beyond the reach of most pockets.
