Technical characteristics of the FIAT Type
The intention of the Turinese house has always been to keep costs under control in order to offer the public a balanced and accessible product. This implies that the Type has a shared scalar platform with other models of the house such as the FIAT 500X, FIAT 500L and Jeep Renegade (Jeep has been part of the FIAT Group since 2009).
For the particular case of the Type we have four bodies and therefore four different dimensions. The most compact is the hatchback with 4,37 meters long, 1,79 meters wide and 1,49 meters high. Next we find the Type Cross with 4,39 meters long, 1,8 wide and 1,56 high. It is followed by the Sedan Type with 4,54 meters long, 1,79 wide and 1,5 high. Finally, the largest is the familiar Station Wagon, with 4,57 meters long, 1,79 meters wide and 1,51 meters high. They all share the same wheelbase: 2,64 meters.
Four different sizes target four different customers. The load capacity grows with the size, and in this way we have that the smallest trunk is that of the FIAT Tipo five-door and Tipo Cross with 440 liters, is followed by Sfive-door sedan with 520 liters, and finally is the Station Wagon who contributes the largest trunk with a minimum of 550 liters. Thanks to these figures, the Type is one of the most spacious compacts on the market.
FIAT Type mechanical range and gearboxes
To adapt to new regulations and emissions restrictions, in 2022 the Tipo mechanical range undergoes a significant renovation. The exclusively thermal units disappear from the range, saying goodbye to the diesel options that had always accompanied the Italian compact. After that remodeling, The family relies on a hybrid variant with an ECO label from the DGT and a diesel.
Officially named as 1.5 hybrid, the Tipo mounts a turbocharged gasoline block with four in-line cylinders and 1.468 cubic centimeters of displacement. An additional 48-volt electrical scheme is installed next to it, an MHEV system that allows it to offer the ECO label. It develops 130 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque.. Management is derived from a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that sends all power to the front axle without the possibility of mounting all-wheel drive.
For its part, the diesel engine, named 1.6 Multijet, offers a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 1.598 cubic centimeters of displacement. It develops 130 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque.It is associated with a six-speed manual gearbox that sends all the power to the front axle. As it does not have any type of electrical assistance, this engine receives the C label from the DGT.
Equipment of the FIAT Type
If there is a word that defines the FIAT Tipo, it is balance. It has everything you may need but without great fanfare. It does not have the most advanced technological equipment on the market, but it does have the enough load of equipment so as not to miss anything. As for its qualities, most of the interior is made of hard plastics, although the feeling of quality is acceptable.
Over the years the Type has been increasing its model range. Depending on the body, it has up to five trim levels: Type, City Life, Life, City Cross and Cross. At each step we not only vary the technological load, we also slightly modify the exterior appearance of the car, going from lower levels to more visually appealing options.
If we focus exclusively on the equipment section, it is worth mentioning that we are not talking about the most complete compact on the market, but it does have interesting options such as: LED headlights, digital instrumentation, induction charger, rear camera, climate control, cruise control, multimedia system with a screen of up to 10,25 inches, connectivity for mobile devices, and a discreet but correct team of driving assistants.

The FIAT Type according to Euro NCAP
One of the problems with the Type today is its level of security. On the occasion of its commercial launch in 2016, Euro NCAP tested the degree of protection it is capable of offering. After undergoing the demanding crash tests it was determined that the FIAT Tipo is a car with three safety stars. Although it shows high levels of protection for adult passengers, 82%, less positive are the protection values for children and pedestrians, 60 and 62%, respectively. The low load of driving assistants does not provide positive values in this aspect either, showing only a score of 25%. These values are shared for the entire range and remain in force in the 2021 model as there has been no change in the structure of the vehicle.
The FIAT Type of Km 0 and second hand
As with many models of FIAT, the depreciation of your products is high. In recent times the FIAT Type has gained a lot of presence in VTC fleets. At the individual level, the Type is far from being the best-selling model in the category, and this despite offering a balanced price and good habitability. Its direct rivals belong to the competitive European C-segment. By price we can highlight models as important as the Kia ceed, skoda scala, Citroen C-Elysee, Hyundai i30, Ford Focus or SEAT Leon, among others.
