The Chevrolet Volt is an extended-range electric vehicle that General Motors also markets as the Opel Ampera , with minor aesthetic differences. It's a five-door model, 4,5 meters long. Due to the batteries being located under the trunk floor, its cargo capacity is only 310 liters.
We have tested this car:
Chevrolet VoltThe unique feature of this vehicle is that it offers the advantages of an electric car combined with the advantages of a combustion engine car: efficiency and range. The Volt uses an electric motor for propulsion, but under the hood is a 1.4-liter gasoline engine that acts as a generator when the electric range (around 60 km) is depleted and there's no charging station available. This model can deliver up to 150 hp. The Chevrolet Volt's fuel consumption is 1,2 liters per 100 kilometers.
In the Spanish market, there are few similar models in terms of design, if we disregard its twin, the Opel Ampera. The most notable might be the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid . It's a more accomplished vehicle in most aspects, but its electric range is more limited, at around 20 kilometers. The Toyota's advantage is its price , significantly lower than the American model's.
