After a few years in which BYD attempted to conquer the European market with low-quality products, the Chinese brand is relaunching its history on the Old Continent with a completely rejuvenated and improved lineup. The product catalog has expanded with exciting new electric models. Within the range, the BYD Han stands out as the brand's largest and most luxurious sedan.
Although it won't arrive in Europe until 2023, the Han was originally launched in China in 2020 under the name e9 . It stands out for its sharp and elegant design, which is in no way inferior to that of its European rivals. Below it in the lineup are other models from the brand, such as the BYD SEAL or the smaller BYD Atto 3, the most popular and affordable SUV in the range.
The latest update to the BYD Han simply focuses on the inclusion of Smart-Driving technology for the 2025-2026 models.
Technical characteristics of the BYD Han
Although it arrives in Europe as a fully electric model, in China it offers several electrified versions. Under its body lies the e-Platform 2.0 modular architecture , developed specifically for electric vehicles. This architecture is exclusive to the sedan, as the rest of the range uses the e-Platform 3.0 chassis.
As the flagship model of the brand, the Han enters a segment primarily occupied by large German sedans. Its exact dimensions are: 4,99 meters long, 1,91 meters wide, and 1,49 meters high . To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,92 meters and a weight exceeding two tons (2.325 kg). Its aerodynamic design allows it to achieve a drag coefficient of 0,23.
Thanks to the generous wheelbase, three adult passengers can travel comfortably in the second row of seats. Behind them is a rather small trunk with a minimum volume of 410 liters . The loading aperture is somewhat narrow for loading bulky items. Another drawback is that the trunk cannot be expanded since the rear bench seat is completely fixed.
BYD Han mechanical range
BYD wants the Han to become its flagship model, and to achieve this, it must offer not only good design and excellent interior space, but also strong performance. The engine range focuses exclusively on a single high-powered version . The main drawback compared to other European manufacturers is the lack of customization options.
The BYD Han features a twin-motor setup , with one motor per axle. Each motor produces 245 horsepower, but together they deliver up to 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque . It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h. Power is distributed between both axles.
The motors are powered by a BYD-manufactured LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery . Located between the axles, it has a gross capacity of 85,4 kWh. In the WLTP cycle, it achieves a range of 521 kilometers with a consumption of 18,5 kWh/100 km. It uses high-power charging systems: up to 120 kW DC and up to 11 kW AC.
In the 2026 update we have a DM-i hybrid version with an 18 kWh battery that allows the electric range to be extended to 90-100 km (WLTP cycle).

Little by little, Chinese manufacturers have been improving the quality of their vehicles. This applies not only to design and mechanics, but also to finishes and equipment. The Han, as a true flagship model, offers a beautifully presented interior , both in terms of quality and technology. Inside, it conveys a premium feel that enhances the overall comfort of all passengers.
Although BYD can't match the extensive customization offered by its European rivals, the Chinese brand offers two trim levels in Spain: Base and Emerald Green Edition . The main differences between them lie in the equipment, although there are also notable changes in terms of details and personalized elements.
In terms of equipment, the Han offers the latest features from the manufacturer, which are on par with its rivals . The extensive standard equipment is particularly noteworthy. Features such as full LED headlights, keyless entry and start, a head-up display, power-adjustable and heated front seats, a digital instrument cluster, a multimedia system with a 15,6-inch touchscreen, a wireless charger, mobile device connectivity, and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems with Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities are especially impressive.
The 2026 update features a major new addition: roof-mounted LiDAR and an NVIDIA Orin-X chip that enables much more advanced autonomous driving with the DiPilot 300 system. In addition, the front seats now include a 10-point massage function, improved cabin sound insulation, and more dynamic ambient lighting that adjusts to the current driving mode.

When it comes down to it, BYD is very clear that it wants to position itself in the middle of the European market, right on the border between premium and mainstream. In terms of size, the Han could be considered a larger sedan, but its price defines it as a mainstream model . That's a lot of car for that price, especially considering its closest competitors. The most expensive model in the family is the Han Emerald Green Edition, with a base price of €74.000, also without offers or promotions.
