El Alfa Romeo Junior It is one of the great releases of the biscione signature in this year 2024. With it they fully enter the B-SUV segment, one of the most competitive since practically all brands have a model in it. Furthermore, it is the model that in one way or another takes over from the now forgotten MiTo since the Tonale has done the same in the C segment with the Giulietta. However, his approach has nothing to do with that of his direct predecessor...

As we have indicated, we are now looking at a B-SUV and the MiTo was a “usual” urban vehicle. Furthermore, its technique is common with other Stellantis models so it could be said that it is no longer a pure Alfa Romeo. However, it is a much more attractive and competitive car because although plays the distraction with its SUV-like style brings much more. For example in the mechanical range since it is the first model of the brand to equip a pure electric drivetrain.

Technical characteristics of the Alfa Romeo Junior

Alfa Romeo Junior - Exteriors (28)

The Alfa Romeo Junior is the first model of the Italian house to use the e-CMP platform by Stellantis. This is the latest version of the EMP1 from the now defunct Groupe PSA that also gives life to its cousins Peugeot 2008 or the 208. Thanks to its multi-energy conception, it can equip different electrified powertrains as well as not. Furthermore, with respect to its group cousins, the firm's engineers have introduced changes to make it an Alfa.

Externally It measures 4,17 meters so it is located in the range below the Tonale 35 centimeters smaller in size. In terms of width and height, it measures 1,78 meters and 1,53 meters respectively with a wheelbase of 2,55 meters. Thanks to the use of this platform and the combination of different materials, it offers a weight that ranges between 1.380 kilos and 1.635 kilos. This last figure is for the electric one, being one of the lowest in the segment.

To offer sportier driving dynamics Alfa engineers have recalibrated the steering. The suspension setting also varies with a lower ground clearance in the 280 HP electric Veloce version or with the inclusion of a new Torsen limited slip differential. The stabilizer bars are sporty, as is the braking system with front discs measuring more than 380 mm with four-piston monobloc calipers.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Alfa Romeo Junior

The mechanical offer of the new Alfa Romeo Junior is made up of hybrid gasoline and pure electric versions. Open the range Junior Ibrida that comes to life thanks to a 1.2 hp 136-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine of power and another electric one of 29 HP. This engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The high-voltage battery has 0,9 kWh of gross capacity with 0,43 kWh of net capacity.

Second is the Junior Elettrica that splits its power into two levels. The "access" version produces 156 HP and is powered by a 54 kWh gross battery (51 kWh net) for an approved range of 410 kilometers. The most powerful corresponds to Veloce finish providing 280 HP powered by the same battery. For charging, direct current at 100 kW can be used, which allows the charge to go from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes.

In a second commercial offensive, Alfa Romeo will expand the mechanical range of the Junior. It is a hybrid that will be called Q4 Ibrida with four-wheel drive thanks to the fact that it uses two electric motors. In addition, a new specific driving program called Q4 for driving in low grip conditions is added to its range of driving modes. This hybrid system will be shared with its cousin, the Jeep Avenger.
