It is a model of special importance for the house as it is considered the model of the rebirth of the legendary manufacturer. After him, other models have emerged, such as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the first SUV of the Turinese.
The official launch of the Alfa Romeo Giulia took place in 2016. At that time, the starting signal was fired for this great resurgence of Alfa Romeo. At the moment the sedan remains in its first generation, although at the end of 2022 it receives a very slight update focused mainly on increasing the load of systems, with minimal aesthetic touches.
Technical characteristics of the Alfa Romeo Giulia
As we have already said, the Alfa Romeo Giulia begins a new stage in the house, one more, and as part of that strategy is the first to make use of the Giorgio platform. It is a modular architecture that will become the main axis of the range, being able to adapt to different bodies and to different segments, as is currently the case with the Stelvio.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is only available in a 4-door saloon body. That leaves us with some external measures of 4,64 meters long, 1,86 meters wide and 1,44 meters high. To these levels we must add a wheelbase set at 2,82 meters and a weight on the scale from 1.540 kilograms, being one of the lightest in the category.
Such a battle allows to offer a cabin for a maximum of five passengers. The three rear occupants will enjoy comfortable seats but not loose in width, although in space for the legs and the head. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio has a trunk with 480 liters of capacity. A figure that cannot grow as the second row of seats cannot be folded down.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Alfa Romeo Giulia
Alfa Romeo has always shown a special sporty approach. The essence of racing is imprinted in its DNA, and that touch has always been brought to its street models. The mechanical range of the Alfa Romeo Giulia presents multiple diesel and gasoline options. All units are presented with a powertrain or all-wheel drive scheme, and a torque converter-type eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The mechanical portfolio starts with the 2.2 JTD with 160 horses. It presents a turbo diesel block with four cylinders and 2.143 cubic centimeters. In turn, that same block can have higher powers of 190 and 211 horses. The gasoline range offers several alternatives. The most decaffeinated have a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder block with 201 and 280 horsepower.
But that's just the "sensible" range. Additionally, Alfa Romeo offers the most extreme Giulia of all. Its about Giulia Quadrifoglio. It is equipped with a 6-liter turbocharged V2,9 engine of Ferrari origin. Untie 520 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. All power goes to the rear axle via an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Equipment of the Alfa Romeo Giulia
Inside the doors, the Alfa Romeo Giulia presents a more classic layout than usual. Currently the deployment of technology is a decisive factor, and more so in the premium segment. It offers good materials and a correct assembly and adjustment process. The sensation of quality is optimal, although not as much as in its direct rivals.
The range of equipment is structured in the usual Alfa Romeo levels. From lowest to highest endowment we find: Super, Sprint, TI, Veloce, Competizione and Quadrifoglio. In each of them we not only modify the load of systems and technology, we also apply changes to the available mechanical offer and to the design, being able to go from a more sober appearance to a more sporty one.
And as for the load of equipment the 2023 edition brings very slight improvements over the predecessor model. Regarding the novelties, it is worth mentioning a new 8,8-inch infotainment system, digital instrumentation with connectivity for mobile devices, and new driving assistants such as the blind spot detector, the traffic jam assistant, the ACC with signal recognition and lane keeping assistance.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia according to Euro NCAP
On the occasion of the original launch of the Giulia, Euro NCAP put the safety of the Italian medium sedan to the test. After rigorous analysis, tests yielded a five-star rating for the Alfa Romeo Giulia. The results by categories were the following: 98% in protection for adults, 81% in children, 69% for pedestrians in the event of being run over and 60% in terms of active safety systems. These evaluations are still valid in the 2020 and 2023 editions since there are no changes of any kind in the structure of the car.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia of Km 0 and second hand
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is the model that will forever change the unreliable brand image of the Italian firm. This midsize sedan, located in the premium quadrant of the segment, meets or exceeds its rivals in sections such as dynamic behavior or sportiness of its mechanical range. Since it hit the market in April 2016, it has been confirmed as a reliable and well-made model. Thanks to that has been able to improve its depreciation to place it at 30,5%. However, it is still above that of its rivals, since they are in the range of 28 or 29%.
If we take a look at the used and second-hand channel, we see that several hundred units are available. Prices start in amounts close to 16 euros for 2016 models with more than 100 thousand kilometers. The sports versions are considerably more expensive, being offered from a minimum of 50.000 euros. The Km 0 market also offers alternatives, but few. In that case we see prices similar to those offered at the dealership with slight discounts.
Rivals of the Alfa Romeo Giulia
Medium saloon with premium category. The Alfa Romeo Giulia's rivals fall into that very specific category. Despite what it may seem, there is a list of opponents to take into account, although not excessively long. The main rivals are found in Germany: Audi A4, BMW Serie 3 y Mercedes C-Class. In addition to those we can add other similar units such as Jaguar XE or Volvo S60. All of them are similar in size, price and characteristics, although the Italian is the one that offers a more dynamic driving in its entire range.
