The arrival of the BYD Dolphin Surf in Spain marks a turning point in the urban electric car segment. This model, which has already caused a sensation in Asian and Latin American markets under names like Seagull or Dolphin Mini, lands in our country with a formula that combines a competitive price, technology, and features rarely seen in its segment.

The BYD Dolphin Surf has been available for pre-order in Spain since the end of May, making it one of the most anticipated launches for those seeking an electric car primarily for city driving, without sacrificing performance, design, or interior space. The brand has adapted the European version, increasing its length to 3,99 meters and incorporating features that cater to the needs of Spanish and European drivers.

An urban electric car very well thought out for everyday use

The BYD Dolphin Surf stands out for offering three clearly differentiated versions : Active, Boost, and Comfort. All share a compact body measuring 3,99 meters long, 1,72 meters wide, and 1,59 meters high , making it a very maneuverable option for urban environments without compromising interior space. The wheelbase is 2,5 meters , allowing for good use of space, and the trunk, with a capacity of 308 liters expandable to 1.037 liters with the rear seats folded down, promises to be sufficient for most everyday needs.

The exterior design is modern and functional , with details such as the black C-pillar that simulates a floating roof, a rear LED strip, and youthful lines. It is offered in four colors: Lime Green, Polar Night Black, Apricity White, and Ice Blue. The interior, digitized and comfortable, features materials that, while mostly hard, are pleasant to the touch and well-finished.

Engines, batteries and autonomy: for all profiles

The range starts with the Active version , which features a 65 kW (88 hp) motor and a 30 kWh Blade battery . It boasts a WLTP-rated range of up to 220 km in mixed driving, which can exceed 300 km in urban driving according to the city cycle. This variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11,1 seconds and supports DC fast charging up to 65 kW, allowing the battery to be recharged from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes; AC charging is also available at 11 kW.

The Boost version retains the 65 kW motor but incorporates a 43,2 kWh battery , increasing the range to 322 km WLTP in combined driving and over 500 km in urban use . The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is slightly longer (12,1 seconds) due to the increased weight, and it supports DC fast charging up to 85 kW (approximately 22 minutes from 30% to 80%).

The top-of-the-range Comfort trim combines the larger battery with a more powerful 115 kW (156 hp) motor . This results in faster acceleration (0-100 km/h in 9,1 seconds) and a combined range of approximately 310 km WLTP . All versions have a top speed limited to 150 km/h.

Standard equipment and trim levels

Even the entry-level Active version already offers a very complete package , with a 10,1-inch rotating touchscreen , 7-inch digital instrument cluster , Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility , rear-view camera, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, NFC keyless entry and start, climate control, vegan leather seats, V2L bidirectional charging, and multiple safety features such as lane departure warning, emergency braking, and tire pressure monitoring.

The Boost trim level adds features such as 16-inch alloy wheels (instead of 15"), power front seats, rain sensor, power folding mirrors, and additional comfort features.

The Comfort trim adds features from higher segments such as heated front seats, a 360º camera, full LED headlights, wireless smartphone charging, and tinted rear windows . Furthermore, the entire cabin boasts a refined design and technological solutions like voice control and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Consumption, recharging and warranty

The official energy consumption is around 13-16 kWh/100 km depending on the version and usage, resulting in very low energy costs for urban driving. The bidirectional charging option allows you to power external electrical devices from the vehicle's battery, a practical feature that is increasingly valued.

Regarding warranties, the BYD Dolphin Surf offers a 6-year or 150.000 km warranty on the complete vehicle , an 8-year or 150.000 km warranty on the motor , and an 8-year or 200.000 km warranty on the battery, provided it retains at least 70% of its capacity. The brand also plans to manufacture future models in Europe to strengthen its presence there.

Prices, promotions and direct rivals

The price range starts at €19.990 for the Active version (without subsidies or discounts) , although thanks to launch campaigns and the Moves III Plan, it can be purchased from €11.780 if the scrappage and financing requirements are met. The Boost starts at €23.990 (€15.780 with subsidies and promotions) and the Comfort from €26.490 (€18.280 with discounts and the Moves III Plan). As a launch offer, 0% APR financing and a free home charger are available for the first 500 buyers.

The BYD Dolphin Surf competes directly with models like the Citroën ë-C3 , Nissan Micra EV , and Kia Concept EV2 , often surpassing these rivals in terms of range, power, and especially the generous equipment included in even the base models. Its range of colors, spaciousness, and technology positions it as one of the most complete and accessible options.

The first deliveries are scheduled for June 2025, and the car is now available for reservation through dealerships. Its combination of affordable pricing, favorable financing options, and standard equipment is expected to make the Dolphin Surf one of the most sought-after electric city cars in the coming months.
